Story
US intelligence is reporting turmoil in the Russian navy. Their deadliest submarine, the Belgorod, has unexpectedly launched, and taken along with it a long list of questions. Who authorized the departure? What mission is it on? And, most disturbing of all, what weapons do the giant doors on the sub’s bow hide? It's been four decades since a similar incident with the Soviet sub, Red October, ended happily, thanks to a young CIA analyst named Jack Ryan.

Good but some big continuity flaws
Reviewed: 02-17-25
So the book is good but no one seems to be following the Ryan universe. Katie and Kyle were never twins they are years apart but now are twins. I am ignoring the age up of the kids because I get it but there is another huge hiccup in the Red October story. They outed the defection like 10 years ago so now we have to pretend that did not happen. The book is good but this concerns me that they are playing fast and loose on some things that make zero sense.

The powerful Murdaugh dynasty had dominated rural South Carolina for generations. No one dared to cross them.

Dr. Kate is once again on the case (not to mention thin ice) after discovering a young engaged couple frozen to death in the lake. To make matters worse, her temporary receptionist appears to have overdosed from a recreational sedative used at the animal hospital. Kate barely has time to dread Valentine's Day (and the fact that she’s alone on this holiday, once again) as the police investigation shows that all three fatalities are in fact homicides.

This is one of my favorites in the series but I wish te character could stay in the moment with her BFs versus always doubting. And her dog is not a rescue. She kinda stole it but for good reasons. The story itself was very good with lots of twists and turns.

I love that they have decided to go back and fill in gaps in the stories while keeping true to the legacy novels. I hope they do more of these books as there are so more stories that can be told. If I could give it 6 stars I would.

I think this book is as close to perfect as you can get for SEP. I love the characters you actually understand why they are doing what they are doing and seem 3 dimensional. It has humor as well. The narration is great as well

It was awful
Reviewed: 10-26-21
The whole premise was dumb, I did not like or even understand the point of view of either character. I did not get why they would get together or even why I would care. It had nothing really to do with the Chicago Stars other than randomly putting some names in. Basically I finished it on a plane and used it to drowned out the guy snoring next to me.
I used to love SEP but I am not sure if I will buy another.

Story
On 22 August 1485, Richard III was killed at Bosworth Field, the last king of England to die in battle. His victorious opponent, Henry Tudor (the future Henry VII), went on to found one of our most famous ruling dynasties. Richard's body was displayed in undignified fashion for two days in nearby Leicester and then hurriedly buried in the church of the Greyfriars. Fifty years later, at the time of the dissolution of the monasteries, the king's grave was lost - its contents believed to be emptied into the river Soar - and Richard III's reputation buried under a mound of Tudor propaganda.

I really wanted to like it
Reviewed: 09-28-21
I love Cousin's War / Plantagenet history so despite the reviews I decided to try this. Honestly I felt almost dirty - like the author was in love with Richard II. Her appreciation / obsession around him was like she and he had a relationship and maybe they did in her mind.
As discussed by other reviews she went out of her way to excuse his gruesome climb to being king and blamed everything on the Woodville's and Tudor's for his power grab. And of course Richard had nothing to do with the death of the two Princes but if he did it was because those mean Woodville's tried to break them out of jail.
The book also asserts that Richard did all of this because his mother was raped - now no one has ever proven any of this that I am aware so you actually spend more time on the "heroic Richard" who probably had birds signing around him and his halo and how she proved via handwriting assessments that he was not a sociopath (lets be honest anyone that was in power at this time in history probably had to have a strong stomach).
I really wanted more about the dig and less of the one sided love story. I finished it and will not be listening again. But if you can stomach 2/3rds of the book the 1/3 was pretty good

No last names. No life stories. Those were the rules. Once upon a time a cocky, copper-haired tourist sauntered into Zara's bar. Story
The Brothers York is the story of three remarkable brothers, two of whom were crowned kings of England and the other an heir presumptive, whose antagonism was fueled by the mistrust and vendettas of the age that brought their family to power. The house of York should have been the dynasty that the Tudors became. Its tragedy was that it devoured itself.
