Entrancingly, fantastically beautiful

I've read and listened to this book several times. Each time I feel transported into a weird and bizarre, not to mention, violent world that I still would very much love to visit.

Good religious history, plodding story
Reviewed: 04-05-18
The build up was so slow I almost gave up several times. The "villain" became obvious fairly early. Some good thoughts on science vs religion, and great cultural history. The "Deus ex Machina" of quantum computing was better done than I feared initially. Regarding the narrator, the Spanish was so bad as to be nearly incomprehensible with several outright mistakes.

Story
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

I love Cline's books, but this one started slowly for me growing from mildly interesting to stunning. And Will Wheaton's narration was just perfect. You can tell he loved reading this book.

Story
My name is Hope Arden, and you won't know who I am. But we've met before—a thousand times. It started when I was 16 years old. A father forgetting to drive me to school. A mother setting the table for three, not four. A friend who looks at me and sees a stranger. No matter what I do, the words I say, the crimes I commit, you will never remember who I am. That makes my life difficult. It also makes me dangerous. The Sudden Appearance of Hope is a riveting and heartbreaking exploration of identity and existence, about a forgotten girl whose story will stay with you forever.

Fun story, a bit long
Reviewed: 05-28-16
I enjoyed the premise and the characters. The narrator's voice feels like a hammer in your head after a while. Just. Too. Forceful. All. The. Time. And the story is just too long. Otherwise, we'll written.
