Story
Ralph Elllison's Invisible Man is a monumental novel, one that can well be called an epic of modern American Negro life. It is a strange story, in which many extraordinary things happen, some of them shocking and brutal, some of them pitiful and touching—yet always with elements of comedy and irony and burlesque that appear in unexpected places. It is a book that has a great deal to say and which is destined to have a great deal said about it.

Perfect story, perfect narration, worthy of multiple readings throughout life. It's obviously a long read for a first person narrative that would be my only complaint I guess.

Story
It is the story of 11-year-old Pecola Breedlove--a black girl in an America whose love for its blond, blue-eyed children can devastate all others--who prays for her eyes to turn blue: so that she will be beautiful, so that people will look at her, so that her world will be different. This is the story of the nightmare at the heart of her yearning and the tragedy of its fulfillment.

Brilliant book. I personally felt like a younger narrator would have served better for such a sharp, painful read instead of the woman herself who obviously at this point sounds like a grandmother

Story
Only once did David Foster Wallace give a public talk on his views on life, during a commencement address given in 2005 at Kenyon College. This is the audio recording of David Foster Wallace delivering that very address. How does one keep from going through their comfortable, prosperous adult life unconsciously? How do we get ourselves out of the foreground of our thoughts and achieve compassion? The speech captures Wallace's electric intellect as well as his grace in attention to others.

I don't get why people worship this guy. He's everything wrong with "smart" people distilled into one caricature of a narcissistic "intellectual" obsessed with hearing his own voice say lots of words that mean absolutely nothing

Hardcore Self Help: F--k Anxiety is for those of us who find the prospect of reading a traditional self-help book to be way too boring. How are you supposed to make positive changes in your life if the book itself feels like a chore? This audiobook is definitely not a chore.
In Hardcore Self Help: F--k Anxiety, I talk to you like a friend. There is lots of swearing and humor but also loads of helpful and actionable information.

Great that he's fun and relatable in the way he doles out the information, but too short and therefore lacking in substance to be taken seriously

Great timeless advice geared to young ambitious men but the guy is pretty racist and sexist which for the time makes a lot of sense but could offend someone

It makes some good points and gives some good tips on being more effective but isn't very engaging to read. It gets too preachy after the initial chapters but it's a good foundation for further reading in effectiveness.
