Historia
Aaron Andrews, a newly-minted doctor, returns to the village of Aetherton to take up his late father's practice. Hopes of easing into his new role and restoring the local clinic are dashed, however, when the disfigured body of a child is discovered in an empty flowerbed. If Stephen King wrote Midsommar
Revisado: 09-28-24
I love Ambrose Ibsen, I've read several of his books now. This one isn't his best but it's still really good, much better than most horror novelist who rehash the same stories. There are always unique elements in every Ibsen story. This book is almost exactly what you'd expect if Stephen King decided to rewrite the movie Midsommar. If you like horror, it's worth a read.

Historia
Penny hates the outdoors, but when her boyfriend, Jared, plans a romantic weekend getaway in the woods, she decides to tag along. The pair drive to a remote Kentucky campground with a strange and sordid history. Within the confines of the Swan Creek State Park are the ruins of a town abandoned under terrifying circumstances in the 19th century. The town of Newsom's Landing had been the site of the last-known witch trial in US history, and the ghost of its defendant, the infamous Ellie Pomeroy, is said to still linger.

Took me two attempts to finish due to creep factor
Revisado: 08-18-24
After reading A House by the Sea by Ambrose Ibsen I wanted to read more of his books because the story was haunting. I started listening to this several months ago and became enthralled by the story. The lead-up and creep factor to this story is thrilling, it really prepares you to be scared. That spooky lead up and suspense is the best part. Because of this and the fact that I'm single and have vivid nightmares, I got too creeped out to finish the story so late at night. I became too busy with school to finish the story the next day, then time passed. It haunted me for months; I wondered what was going to happen. I finally had time and finished it today, the end didn't beat the lead-up but it's a great, creepy, ghost story, nonetheless. Ibsen is skilled at writing stories that stick with you long after reading them. I definitely recommend him!

Gory, not as good as Fazbear Frights
Revisado: 01-04-23
The only decently good story in this book was the Moondrop Dream Sphere story. I'm on the 4th book in the Pizzaplex series and the only stories I thought were actually good, that stuck with me, was Lally's Game and the Moondrop story. The rest of the stories were forgettable or stuck with me for the wrong reasons. Many of the Pizzaplex stories don't even have much to do with FNAF, another issue. The Fazbear Frights books were so well written with full and well told stories, the Pizzaplex stories are just not great and they're way more gory. For horror fans, a good analogy of these books compared to a movie series would be the Fazbear Frights stories are like the Insidious movies. Full, complicated, twisting storylines, lots to tell, scary but well told, the Pizzaplex series are more like the Hostel movies, gory, more disgusting than scary, not much story but violent. For example, in one of the stories in Pizzaplex that spans a few books, while constructing a pizzaplex that was built over an old Freddy's, an anamatronic was given the job of helping the construction workers by deconstructing old anamatronics, the anamatronic starts "deconstructing" the construction workers instead, later a group of teens get stuck in this sealed up building with the killer anamatronic and also get "deconstructed." In another Pizzaplex story a chubby pizzaplex worker gets stuck in a maze of "fitness center" tunnels. You get some background on the worker and then have to hear the long story of this man being slowly torn apart by an anamatronic "helper" (that's supposed to help/guide people through the tunnels), the guy gets stuck over and over again and is slowly ripped apart by the anamatronic helper, in great detail. Somehow this story is boring, monotonous, gross, disturbing and cringey, all at once, it was hard to get through. The stories themselves lack detail but the descriptions of limbs being torn off and bones breaking are given way too much detail, it's all gore not enought horror.

Not as good as Fazbear Frights
Revisado: 01-03-23
I absolutely loved the original story trilogy and the Fazbear Frights series, I had such high hopes for the Pizzaplex stories. I've read book #1 and #2 and I'm starting on book #3, I'm hoping it gets better. It seems the stories just aren't as good as they used to be. The BEST stories in the first two Pizzaplex books would be mediocre stories in Fazbear Frights, the stories you easily forget. The stories aren't as creepy, not as well written, too much lead up to a lackluster plot, way too many of the stories end without an ending. The main reason the other books are so good is because they're so well written, have great storylines, are pretty creepy, have twists and surprises, these books are missing these components. They're hardly even creepy or scary, not many surprises, the stories don't stay with you, they're not haunting. Of course Suzanne Elise Freeman's narration is amazing, she may be the best part of this series, for the audio version anyway. Maybe it's because Elley Cooper and Carly Ann West aren't helping to author this series, please bring them back! Fingers crossed the series gets better. 🤞❤️🩹🐻

Super spooky
Revisado: 05-28-22
The creature/demon thing in this book is very creepy. At first I thought the storytelling was average but it got better, I liked how it told the story through every family member's perspective. I had planned on starting this book and only listen for an hour or two... I ended up staying up until 4am and finished it, I was hooked! It's a little more creepy as time goes on, I randomly picture the creature from the story. It's a must read for horror fans who like to be "haunted" by a spooky story.

Travel writer Lea Sutter finds herself on a small island off the coast of South Carolina, the wrong place at the wrong time. A merciless, unanticipated hurricane cuts a path of destruction and Lea barely escapes with her life. In the storm’s aftermath, she discovers orphaned twin boys and impulsively decides to adopt them. The boys, Samuel and Daniel, seem amiable and immensely grateful; Lea’s family back on Long Island - husband Mark and their two children, Ira and Elena - aren’t quite so pleased.

A new favorite!
Revisado: 04-21-22
I loved R.L. Stein as a child, I just recently discovered he wrote adult books. My excitement turned to disappointment after reading the Fear: 13 book, though R.L. didn't write all the stories in it, I thought it was pretty bad. Not giving up on R.L.'s adult collection, I returned Fear: 13 and purchased Red Rain. I'm so glad I did! I really liked this book, it was interesting, entertaining, heartfelt at times, creepy, obviously well written with an awesome plot, cool location and a twist at the end that I did not see coming! Personally, I love a good storm story and a suprise ending, this had both! The narrator was great too, all the different voices and accents he does is pretty impressive and I loved the sound of his voice, especially when he did southern accents. The book does get a little sexually graphic a couple times so it's probably not the best read for teens under 14. It's a must read!

In this collection of 13 fabulously chilling stories from 13 true masters of suspense, including five New York Times best sellers and a number of Edgar Award nominees, all edited by none other than R. L. Stine, nothing is what it seems. From cannibalistic children, to an unwitting date with a vampire, to a crush on a boy who just might be a werewolf, no scary stone is left unturned. A must-have for all fans of the genre!

Kinda lackluster, more sci-fi than horror
Revisado: 04-20-22
I was so excited to read this book, I loved R.L. Stein as a child. I was disappointed, these stories were hardly creepy and most of them were more sci-fi than horror. I wasn't a fan of most of the stories and only mostly liked about 3-4 of the stories. I was expecting creepy, spooky, makes you think, suspense, not lizard men on trains and people on an alien planet who are actually fleas... it just didn't have that zing. The best thing was the narrators, appealing voices and great voice changes for different characters. This book might be better for pre-teens and younger sci-fi/creepy fans.
