Story
The original 1937 manuscript was written and edited with the assistance of Napoleon’s wife. In later years, the existing document was again edited by Dr. Hill. For example, the Foundation owns a 1958 edition that Hill edited personally. This did not lessen the book’s value in Hill’s judgment. Hill made the editing remarks in his own handwriting and the resulting 1960 edited edition has sold over 100 million copies making it the most read self-help book of all time.

Based on imaginary happenings
Reviewed: 10-05-19
I have been hearing about this book forever and thought it about time I delved in. Part way through i was so enthralled I started googling the author.
The book is 'based' on a supposed 500 interviews with successful people however there doesn't seem to be much evidence that the interviews took place or that his relationship with some of the famous mentioned were true. Disappointing, I stopped reading.

Story
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

So many generalisations, so little back up

I was expecting an amazing book given its popularity. Very disappointed - though I have to confess I didn't finish it. I couldn't cope with the sweeping generalisations and the little amount of back up.

Story
A Short History of Nearly Everything is Bill Bryson's quest to understand everything that has happened from the Big Bang to the rise of civilization. He takes subjects that normally bore the pants off most of us, like geology, chemistry, and particle physics, and aims to render them comprehensible to people who have never thought they could be interested in science. In the company of some extraordinary scientists, Bill Bryson reveals the world in a way most of us have never seen it before.

Managers broadcast to their teams about projects. Colleagues broadcast to one another about available resources. The messages we choose to broadcast shape others' beliefs in the potential for success and their ability to create positive change.

What disappointed you about Year of Yes?
So repetitive about her endless fears.. once it was explained we didn't need it explained again and again... it got too boring to listen to. I had hoped for inspiration but found very little YES.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Some bits were interesting...

Story
David Mitchell, who you may know for his inappropriate anger on every TV panel show except Never Mind the Buzzcocks, his look of permanent discomfort on C4 sex comedy Peep Show, his online commenter-baiting in The Observer or just for wearing a stick-on moustache in That Mitchell and Webb Look, has written a book about his life.

What didn’t you like about David Mitchell’s performance?
His voice is pretty unpleasant in long stretches

Comparing Google to an ordinary business is like comparing a rocket to an Edsel. No academic analysis or bystanders account can capture it. Now Doug Edwards, Employee Number 59, offers the first inside view of Google, giving readers a chance to fully experience the bizarre mix of camaraderie and competition at this phenomenal company. I'm Feeling Lucky captures for the first time the unique, self-invented, yet profoundly important culture of the world's most transformative corporation.

A bitter man
Reviewed: 02-15-12
What would have made I'm Feeling Lucky better?
A good motive to write it. I couldn't see the point of the book other than to make sure people knew that Larry and Sergei were very flawed and lots of other people really did the work. I heard bitterness everywhere.
Has I'm Feeling Lucky turned you off from other books in this genre?
no
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes
What character would you cut from I'm Feeling Lucky?
The author - substitute him for someone less cynical
Any additional comments?
I don't know that this book added anything to the world.
