Very disappointed
Revisado: 10-15-23
This series started so very strong with characters and subplots that were engaging and understandable. I was expecting a rousing conclusion but the ceaseless war fight without meaningful return to people i cared about left me flat.
There was an unexplained loose end from the suicidal bombing of the Hugh emblematic of how flat this series has become.
The narrator remains excellent. I doubt I’ll purchase the next episode at this rate.

But Nancy hates her job, is sick of space, and longs to find adventure and a safe place to smoke cigarettes that won’t blow everyone up. But when Nancy gets caught up in an outer-space conspiracy involving President Kennedy, former vice-president Richard Nixon, and an intergalactic object that could change the course of history, she gets way more adventure than she bargained for.

Surprised and pleased!
Revisado: 02-18-23
I’m not a big fan of audio plays, but this one really surprised me. I’ve I found it thoroughly enjoyable especially since I’m a “space-baby” and grew up in the 1960s so all the characters were very familiar. I especially enjoyed the title’s allusion to Space 1999 the IPC syndicated TV series featuring Martin Balsam, the soundscape brought me right back to it. The acting by Natasha Lyonne was over-the-top, hilarious, and I found myself laughing out loud throughout.
Give it a spin. This is an Audible Original worth, listening to and going back to occasionally

Consistently Good Author

I continue to be addicted to Jack Carr’s protagonist James Reese. Carr’s plots could be taken from todays news feeds. Twist and turns keep me engaged and rooting for the good guys.

Everyone with an interest in America's greatest battle comes up against its controversies. What if J. E. B. Stuart had arrived on the battlefield before the second day? What if Ewell had pressed hard on the heels of the Union rout on the first day? What if Pickett's charge had been stronger and better led? What if the Army of the Potomac had been commanded by a more aggressive counter attacker than Meade?

Hard to follow as an audio book
Revisado: 04-21-21
Unless you have an intimate comprehension of the individual historical figures and geography you may find this retelling confusing at times.
The writing and performance is very good. The descriptions of battle, tactics and weaponry excellent.
If you’re thinking the alternative history will be dramatically different you will be disappointed.

Historia
In this narrative history of the Mohawk River Valley and surrounding region from 1713 to 1794, Professor Richard Berleth charts the passage of the valley from a fast-growing agrarian region streaming with colonial traffic to a war-ravaged wasteland. The valley's diverse cultural mix of Iroquois Indians, Palatine Germans, Scots-Irish, Dutch, English, and Highland Scots played as much of a role as its unique geography in the cataclysmic events of the 1700s - the French and Indian Wars and the battles of the American Revolution.

We recently drove cross country, finishing our travels through upstate New York. Having gone to college in Syracuse I was hoping to find an interesting read this summer. The narrator and author did not disappoint. I found new perspective from familiar place names and new appreciation for the lives of our forebears.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

This book was published a year before 9/11. I found it to be thoroughly engaging with wonderful character development. John Corey is witty, ironic and the compleate New Yorker. I recommend this story and both the prequel PLUM ISLAND and the sequel NIGHT FALL.
