In the not-too-distant future, a 21-member crew launches from Earth. Their mission: to establish a temporary colony on Mars. Little do they know that colony will become permanent–and the last stand of the human race. Because, without warning, every single person left on Earth simply...vanishes. I wish the story was longer, the dramatic enactment was very immersive, the sci-fi solid, the ideas are cool!

An experience!

The quality of the performance and sound effects are superb. They made the story come alive. The characters have depth and are completely believable. I couldn't put this down. The ending was worth it too in my opinion. The entire narrative wonderfully showcased the shortcomings of modern governance and the values by which they operate, that come from fear, reactive behaviours, and complete lack of imagination resulting from the first two. It also showed that things that make life worth living start precisely where fear stops and eyes open to seeing something new, previously unknown and mysterious, without reservation but with a critical eye, poise and wisdom. Truth is not known to us, we're limited and that's ok. It doesn't mean we can't learn to perceive better and more and share the wonder. Isn't that what life is all about? Great story!

Defeated, crushed, and driven almost to extinction, the remnants of the human race is trapped on a planet that is constantly attacked by mysterious alien starfighters. Spensa, a teenage girl living among them, longs to be a pilot. When she discovers the wreckage of an ancient ship, she realizes this dream might be possible - assuming she can repair the ship, navigate flight school, and (perhaps most importantly) persuade the strange machine to help her. Because this ship, uniquely, appears to have a soul.

Loved it! Couldn't put down the book.
A coming of age story with, as usual, important philosophical implications for our day and age.
I loved the heroine, somewhat misguided in her behaviour at an early stage, it's a coming of age story aiming for higher goals than are readily visible.
I won't spoil the story, but when one of the characters was fixed on mushrooms and then shortly after it turned out the technology required a human who could naturally see a field of fixed eyes around them... well, I'm sure those who understand will get the reference. )))))
Great character building as usual. I felt for each of the characters and can't wait to see what will become of the engineer and FM, the general, the opposite coalition, the flight leader and heroine. :)

I loved that the magic system was thought out in a way that improved upon what Hogwarts promised by explaining some of the background principles.
The story spends appropriate amount of time on character development and on action and background world building.
I will happily read the other books and would recommend it.

The book has exactly the right mix of action, smoochies, sex, hints at existential questions and makes a point about responsibility for one's actions and their consequences regardless of what you are.
Kat is my favourite, she is the perfect 'didn't ask for it, but will do my best type of person', knows how to live passionately. Her mother is a character you love to hate: narrow-minded, with a victim's view of everything justified or not, continuously nagging about how everyone including her own daughter wronged her by her very birth and existence and now must put up with her despotism and lack of compassion. It would be nice to see if she grows out of her infantilism or is it senility.
On negative side the book is a bit short - for me- but then again ! I love that it's only the first one. :)

Now considered a classic in the field, this remarkable book was the first to fully explore the mystery of life between lives. Journey of Souls presents the first-hand accounts of 29 people placed in a "superconscious" state of awareness using Dr. Michael Newton's groundbreaking techniques. This unique approach allows Dr. Newton to reach his subjects' hidden memories of life in the spirit world after physical death.

It's different than expected
Reviewed: 11-02-16
With no spoilers this is a good fiction about technically a "post apocalyptic" world with the hero being from the 20th century so we better relate to him. It somewhat reminded me of the game Fallout by Bethesda.
I liked that it's quite like hearted despite the subject matter, an easy read, with good sense of humour throughout.
In dislikes, at the beginning I thought there is a bit too much sexual innuendo, but it does tone down towards the end and is presented with no sexually explicit scenes so as the book progresses seems more of a humorous in nature ad well as serving a purpose in the plot.
Overall, I have enjoyed this book more than I expected and will read the other ones for sure. The main character is very likable and somewhat reminds me of colonel O'Neill from the series Star Gate.
I would recommend it to anyone who wants to read a sci-fi book with not too much scientific sounding language and difficult to understand concepts, there is none in this first book. It is a light read and is actually a very good setting for what I hope would be an excellent continuation of the series.

Great story, riveting!
Reviewed: 10-29-16
Things I liked: from the first few minutes the story dives into action and keeps you at the edge of your seat for the rest of it. The twist in the middle is interesting and as the book mentions regarding stories in general, this one concerns human nature and choices. The line for this narrative is clear and straight forward and rather useful (for self reflection) for any person I have ever met. Still, it's an easy read if one wants it to be as well as the characters are very likable.
I wish the book was longer with ever more convoluted twists, it was that good! I would recommend the book and the author to any sci-fi fan who likes stories on time travel and multi-world theory.
