Good stories but narrator needs coaching

Jim Gough is an okay narrator. He has a mellow voice but is rather slow paced and doesn’t do accents very well. He also has a problem with pronunciation and names. It’s not Jamie Brigo - it’s Jaime Brigo - pronounced phonetically“Himay” because he is a Spanish character. Please educate the narrators on location names and character names because it kicks you right out of the story when you know the narrator is not a good reader of westerns. The best narrators of Westerns, that I have found, are David Strathairn and Jason Culp.

Good stories but bad pronunciation

I think it’s imperative that all narrators learn how to pronounce western terminology. Louis L’Amour helps with that if you read his books enough. I’m surprised that the producers didn’t check that the narrator knew how to say “lunger”, mogollons, and roan. Lunger for someone with TB in his lungs not someone who lunges. “Muggyowns” is how L’Amour says it and roan is “rown” not “rowan”.
There now, I have that off my chest.
Thank you.

Excellent story and well read by John Curless. This is the start of the Sackett family legacy. It is a family that every strong person, man or woman, wants to be a part of - just to see how to become great yourself. Start here and don't stop until you've read them all. John Curless does fine in the first 4 books of the series but David Strathairn makes the Sacketts I love (Tell, Tyrel and Orrin) come to life.

This book is difficult to read because it deals with loss but it is great to see the justice that a man can deliver, even on his own. A very good book read by one of the best narrators, David Straitharn. The narrator is able to epitomize the western character and reveal the nuances of each voice to make these historical times seem real to the modern reader.

Engaging from the beginning and reveals how women have to be just as tough as men to make it in a world where the law doesn't exist unless you make it yourself.

A very good book read by one of the best narrators, David Straitharn. The book was made into a John Wayne movie and is a good snapshot of how experience is your best teacher but you may not have time to get that experience so learn it from someone who has.

I started this book because of the TV series as I wanted to find out more about the use of a Catholic as the main character. The TV show has its own issues but I was hoping for more from the author. Why does a non-catholic author write about Catholics without research? Going to a Catholic college doesn’t cut it. The author had Catholic friends and admired a Catholic priest from what I have read but it appears she didn’t think to ask about The Immaculate Conception. She only parroted back what she has heard from ignorant folks. Too bad. You lost me at that point. Plus, the narrator has trouble with accents. A total disappointment. Not reading anymore by this author. She’s lost her credibility.

Who is the narrator? You have two different narrators listed. Check out the picture. Whoever the narrator is - he is stilted. Not smooth flowing at all.

Great reading - bad background noise

I really liked this book but I found parts distracting because I hear some background noise and even talking in the background in a few parts. In Chapter 3 about 1/3 of the way through there is someone talking in the background - like on the telephone. I was surprised that no one has edited that out. Maybe they can't or no one knew about it. Don't the editors listen to the whole story before they publish? I am disappointed because when you purchase an audible book you expect superior production.
PS.
When you get to Chapter 7 of the second book - the Two Towers - you will hear someone talking and a BLENDER going in the background. What is going on???!! Audible - get a new person in your quality control department!
