Story
On July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed in the South Pacific by a Japanese submarine. An estimated 300 men were killed upon impact; close to 900 sailors were cast into the Pacific Ocean, where they remained undetected by the navy for nearly four days and nights. Battered by a savage sea, they struggled to stay alive, fighting off sharks, hypothermia, and dementia. By the time rescue arrived, all but 317 men had died. The captain's subsequent court-martial left many questions unanswered

I never would have listened to this type of story, yet something about what the reviews had said drew me to it. I'm glad I did. The story was difficult yet very inspiring and heartwarming at the same time. Well written, well read, definitely worth the listen

With ribald humor, wit, and incredible insight, Alan seamlessly moves back and forth in time, integrating stories from his childhood in Scotland and his experiences today as the celebrated actor of film, television, and stage. At times suspenseful, at times deeply moving, but always incredibly brave and honest, Not My Father's Son is a powerful story of embracing the best aspects of the past and triumphantly pushing the darkness aside.

This audio book is immediately captivating, well written and well narrated. As a counsellor myself I could tell, as he was recounting his story, how much healing he had done as he shares the darkest recesses of his mind and his family history. I could relate to the knee knocking, yet extremely healing conversations he had as I have have had several of these myself and will continue as I stay true to my own values, as Alan clearly stays true to his. I love that he chose kindness over conflict, healing over separation, exposure over denial. If you have any family healing to do, let this book be your inspiration and your guide. Well done.

Best biz book I've bought in a long time
Reviewed: 03-18-13
I went out and purchased the hard copy of this book immediately after listening to it. It is the best advice I have had in a long time. The hard copy gave me the myriad of resources this book offers at my fingertips, but giving it a listen first was of great value.
The only tough thing to listen to was when he rattled off all of the URL's in the book. You need to stand poised with pen and paper to catch them.
This is the only book I've read where you are given all of the resources you need to actually to what he says.

On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

There was nothing about this that I liked
Reviewed: 10-30-11
Not only was this not an interview, it didn't seem very related to the topic.
Susie hogged most of the airspace rather than interveiw her interviewee, and seemed very preoccupied with making this all about sex.
Not that there's anything wrong with sex, and I get how sex it very tied to pleasure, but if that's what you 're going to talk about, make the title "How sexual pleasure works".It would be to your advantage as sex is a very well searched topic and would sell more books. :-)
I was expecting more of a Malcolm Gladwell-esque type of commentary. At the end of this I felt more confused and put off than educated.
