Story
Twenty years ago, monsters rose on earth and began a new age of civilization. One where humans live in military-controlled, cramped and dirty cities along the coasts, and the majority of the United States is known as the Wastes. A lawless, desolate and dangerous place, teeming with monsters that have claimed the land for their own. Including Wyn the Soul Eater. He appears every three years, making his way across the country and slaughtering humans randomly, sucking them dry until they’re nothing but husks.

Wow!

The story was great and sweet but I’m most here to gush about the performance! I’ve logged in so many audiobooks in the past few years I could have my own library and this book blew me way! I felt like I was watching a movie instead of listening to a book. The emotions, just wow!

Too long, boring and confusing plot
Reviewed: 07-04-23
I’m not sure where to start. The book was wayyyyyyy too long. I guess since authors get paid by page numbers this happens a lot, The plot could have been interesting but instead was confusing but boring at the same time. The length wouldn’t have been bad if it was filled with character backstory or something! Instead the action parts come out of nowhere with no lead up so when it started I thought that the character was maybe dreaming? It switched from past to present super clumsily. The smut was meh but without some character development and storyline it didn’t do it for me.

Persephone is the Goddess of Spring by title only. The truth is, since she was a little girl, flowers have shriveled at her touch. After moving to New Athens, she hopes to lead an unassuming life disguised as a mortal journalist. Hades, God of the Dead, has built a gambling empire in the mortal world and his favorite bets are rumored to be impossible. After a chance encounter with Hades, Persephone finds herself in a contract with the God of the Dead and the terms are impossible: Persephone must create life in the Underworld or lose her freedom forever.

I can’t believe I saw this book recommended so many places. I never got a good feel on either of their characters and left the whole story feeling very flat and more like a teenage romance and not in a good way. All of the storylines felt overly used and contrite. Worst of all when we get to the steamy part (finally) it may have been the most boring bland thing I’ve ever read.
