Rambling storyline. Irritating reader. Kept going like half watching a LifeTime movie while doing laundry.

Story
Just as I Am is my truth. It is me, plain and unvarnished, with the glitter and garland set aside. Here, I am indeed Cicely, the actress who has been blessed to grace the stage and screen for six decades. Yet I am also the church girl who once rarely spoke a word. I am the teenager who sought solace in the verses of the old hymn for which this book is named. I am a daughter and mother, a sister, and a friend. I am an observer of human nature and the dreamer of audacious dreams.

A Good Reader is Critical
Reviewed: 02-22-21
I was very disappointed with this reader. Her voice was coarse. I often could not tell when a speaker changed, particularly between Anna and Sophie. I also had to keep reminding myself that Anna and Sophie were not matrons. I had so enjoyed The Gilded Hour, I didn’t even check that the reader had changed for this sequel.

Ugh!

Couldn’t listen to this dreadful reading. I loved Joanne Froggat on Downton Abbey, just couldn’t take her frought voice in my head to make it thru one chapter. This book will definitely be one I read myself. Since I can’t submit a review without rating the story I gave it one star even though I didn’t hear enough to evaluate the book itself.

Lydia Quixano Pérez lives in the Mexican city of Acapulco. She runs a bookstore. She has a son, Luca, the love of her life, and a wonderful husband who is a journalist. When Lydia’s husband’s tell-all profile of Javier, the jefe of the newest drug cartel that has gruesomely taken over the city, is published, none of their lives will ever be the same.
