Story
Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation. Raised in the sun-drenched, idyllic world of Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. But in 1965, the world is changing, and she suddenly dares to imagine a different future for herself. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path.

One of her best!

My son studied the foreign policy of the Vietnam War this past fall in school and I was “lucky” enough to have to help him through it. I learned so much that I never knew. This book was a great compliment to it. I love Kristen Hannah’s books, but this one resonated more. I’m not sure if it was bc my father served or just that it’s more recent history. She did an amazing job though. I cried, laughed, and was educated. I am forever grateful of all the women and men who served. Thank you Mrs. Hannah. Excellent book.

Story
With a disarming mix of charm and Tammany-hewn toughness, Rosenberg began her career in public relations in 1920s Manhattan. As FDR's unofficial adviser, Rosenberg soon wielded enormous influence—no less potent for being subtle. Her extraordinary career continued after his death. By 1950, she was tapped to become the assistant secretary of defense—the highest position ever held by a woman in the US military—prompting Senator Joe McCarthy to wage an unsuccessful smear campaign against her.

A bit of a slow start but hang in there. This book is worth the time and credits. One of the best listens I’ve had in years.
