Story
Once in a blue moon, a book comes along that changes the world. The Origin of Species. War and Peace. 1984. And now, Cunk on Everything: The Encyclopedia Philomena, by Philomena Cunk. Philomena Cunk is one of the greatest thinkers of the 21st century, and in Cunk on Everything she turns her attention to our biggest issue: why are there so many books? Wouldn't it be better if there was just one? This is that book—an encyclopedia of all human knowledge, delving into not only life's greatest mysteries but our most important political figures and cultural touchstones.

Story
At the Sunny Bay Home for Superfluous and Accidentally Parentless Children, Pip and Flora are in trouble. Running away with their dog they discover the Marvellous Land of Snergs, a magical world of cinnamon bears and scrumptious feasts - but also one of vegan ogres, disgraced jesters and dastardly Kelps, with a villain dressed entirely in purple.... Soon their only friend is forgetful but lovable snerg, Gorbo. He will lead them home - if they can decide where home really is and if Gorbo can remember how to get there.

…let’s be real folks, I’d listen to Stephen Fry read the Janesville Wisconsin phone book aloud. I hate Janesville WI.
That nod to a lack of objectivity aside, this is really quite good. I’d say it’s perfect for children but it’s possibly wasted on them.

Story
Defying both civil authorities and the Mormon establishment in Salt Lake City, the renegade leaders of these Taliban-like theocracies are zealots who answer only to God; some 40,000 people still practice polygamy in these communities. At the core of Krakauer’s book are brothers Ron and Dan Lafferty, who insist they received a commandment from God to kill a blameless woman and her baby girl. Beginning with a meticulously researched account of this appalling double murder, Krakauer constructs a bone-chilling narrative of messianic delusion, polygamy, savage violence, and unyielding faith.

Story
The impact of The Late Great Planet Earth cannot be overstated. This blockbuster offered Christians and non-Christians of the 1970s a wake-up call to events to come, and some already unfolding, that herald the return of Jesus Christ. The years since have confirmed Lindsey's insights into what biblical prophecy says about the times we live in: the rebirth of Israel, the threat of war in the Middle East, an increase in natural catastrophes, the revival of Satanism and witchcraft.

Failed Prophecy

The performances were great.
The writing was as good as this sort of thing gets;but at the end of the day if you are peddling prophecy about the end of the world and get it wrong, it’s just a far less entertaining Dan Brown book.
I was raised in this scaremongering.
I wanted to revisit this as an adult and see if it was as scary as I remembered.
It is a child’s idea of an “educated” adult’s views on a old book of fiction.
