After devoting fifteen years of his life to the reviled losing side, with the blood of half a million casualties on his hands, Aden is looking for a way to move on. He’s not the only one. A naval officer has borne witness to inconceivable attacks on a salvaged fleet. A sergeant with the occupation forces is treading increasingly hostile ground.

A good start

This book simply introduces you to the characters and sets up for book 2. It has key events that take place but it's pretty linear. The narration is what you expect from Daniels, I just wished he had not chosen to use an Australian twang for the planet dialog.

5 star story & performance, poor audio production
Reviewed: 07-21-18
Both performance and story warrant 5 stars. I really hope they make a second season on Netflix. My overall rating is 4 stars because the audio production is poor. A real pity. Its a little better on earbuds but terrible on car audio.

A Riddle
Reviewed: 07-02-14
AG Riddle takes you on quite a journey! The multiple threaded plot twists and turns to a point where I thought it was quiet a riddle! One must really follow the characters carefully which I enjoyed. It kept me engaged and he really makes you want to believe in his take on the whole Atlantis theory. It's an ambitious plot. The pace was well executed and picks up as the story line starts to come together leading to a crescendo. (Considering this is a trilogy).
At first I thought that I was going to battle with Stephen Bel Davies's voice. He sounded almost too pronounced. This however faded and he actually does a damn good job! There was a number of accents to cover and he had to switch between them quickly at times. I think I heard him falter slightly once.
I downloaded book 2 but I took a break before starting. I've been waiting to have more time on hand so I can really tune in and listen.

Story
Pilgrim is the codename for a man who doesn’t exist. The adopted son of a wealthy American family, he once headed up a secret espionage unit for US intelligence. Before he disappeared into anonymous retirement, he wrote the definitive book on forensic criminal investigation. But that book will come back to haunt him. It will help NYPD detective Ben Bradley track him down. And it will take him to a rundown New York hotel room where the body of a woman is found facedown in a bath of acid, her features erased, her teeth missing, her fingerprints gone....

The thriller you need to listen to this year!
Reviewed: 07-02-14
I really enjoyed this story! I devoured volume 1 in no time and quickly went through volume 2 as well! Terry Hayes has a great sense of humour and I enjoy his writing style. The first person perspective gives so much more depth to the main character. His structure and pace was spot on too. Christopher Ragland does a good job but I found he battled with the accents and I couldn't get into his female voice.Overall, this is definitely a thriller you want to listen to this year. One get's an insight of the tragedy that is 911 and what goes on in the minds of people that want to destroy life on such a scale. My first five star rating.

This classic deserves better

Timeless
Reviewed: 04-14-13
For some reason I missed the whole Dune thing when it originally came out. I was dubious about buying the Audible thinking it's going to be dated and may loose me up front. Well, I was genuinely surprised! The multi narration and use of mystical ambient sounds and voice effects drew me in and I became submersed into a story of betrayal and revenge set to a timeless backdrop that is so rich in detail it's no wonder they made strategy games about it! Unlike other sci-fi titles I've listened to, the author achieves this without dragging the audience through technological waffle but rather refers to earthly class, cultural and religious aspects of a people surviving in harsh conditions. A true classic.

Story
Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.
