Not bad, decent beginning of a series
Revisado: 05-30-24
Good story and plot. I’m not a prude, but it had a bit too much sex interaction, so that it took over the main story.

Historia
In The Righteous Mind, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt explores the origins of our divisions and points the way forward to mutual understanding. His starting point is moral intuition - the nearly instantaneous perceptions we all have about other people and the things they do. These intuitions feel like self-evident truths, making us righteously certain that those who see things differently are wrong. Haidt shows us how these intuitions differ across cultures, including the cultures of the political left and right.

Informative insight into human tendencies
Revisado: 02-11-24
The book approaches religion and politics from a utilitarian solution. It emphasizes the evolutionary benefits of tribal thinking and our genetic predisposition to hold inabilities to accurately assess and value truth claims that disagree with our group thought. It is well thought out, and covers a range of psychological and sociological grounds.

Historia
Kris Chambers is a nobody. A 24-year-old man with a dead-end job and no prospects—and, to top it off, a heart condition that forever keeps him on his toes—he spends his life trapped between apathy, self-doubt, and mortal fear. As he walks down an unfamiliar alleyway, he stumbles upon the lifeless body of a stranger. Unbeknownst to him, this grisly discovery marks the beginning of an entirely new chapter in his life. Upon mysteriously awakening in the hospital, he learns that his heart now functions flawlessly, and he feels… different.

Moronic Superhuman
Revisado: 12-01-23
This book was well written and full of good tension. The downside is that the main character is an absolute moron from start to finish. With newly found abilities at his disposal, instead of doing anything wise, without any experience, he throws himself into a war to try and make up for the fact that he’s been a loser who has made dumb decisions his whole life. The whole book my thoughts were, he could do so many better things for himself and the world if he had a brain and wasn’t riddled with insecurities. He doesn’t deserve the enhancements.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Sobering book
Revisado: 09-21-23
This was a good read. It’s a sobering tale of the power of manipulation and indoctrination by authority figures over the young, and the residual trauma that has to be overcome to heal from it.

Historia
Esteemed Bible scholars and teachers Amy-Jill Levine and Marc Z. Brettler take readers on a guided tour of the most popular Hebrew Bible passages quoted in the New Testament to show what the texts meant in their original contexts and then how Jews and Christians, over time, understood those same texts. By understanding the depth and variety by which these passages have been, and can be, understood, The Bible With and Without Jesus does more than enhance our religious understandings, it helps us to see the Bible as a source of inspiration for any and all listeners.

Decent read
Revisado: 06-26-23
This definitely came from a liberal Jewish perspective. While seeking to be fair and offer a different perspective in light of historical/modern interpretation and tradition, they seem to rather adamantly oppose fundamental Christian doctrine to the degree that it emphasizes or advocates for replacement theology. That’s where the balanced approach ended, and became a book about why Jews and Christians should reject Christian dogma.
Overall good read though, and provided good insights.
