Historia
Searching for meaning in what Nietzsche once called “the rainbow colors” around the outer edges of knowledge and imagination, Edward O. Wilson bridges science and philosophy to create a 21st century treatise on human existence. Once criticized for his over-reliance on genetics, Wilson unfurls here his most expansive and advanced theories on human behavior, recognizing that, even though the human and spider evolved similarly, the poet’s sonnet is wholly different than the spider’s web.

I've learnt a lot about insects
Revisado: 06-27-19
I’ve labored through over 50% of this book and now I’m done. The author goes on and on about insects! Not that entomology is not a fascinating topic and the behavior of tiny critters can be enthralling. But when I purchase a book on “The Meaning of Human Existence”, I frankly don’t care to spend over 3 hours learning about the minutiae of how insects go about their day, how the author got into an argument with other people fascinated by ants, how little bugs spray their pheromones, the strategies they use to enslave other bugs, etc. Maybe somewhere towards the end, the author ties things together and reveals the grand meaning of our existence, but I doubt it. In my opinion, books by authors like Yuval Noah Harari and Sean Carroll are richer and provide deeper insights into the nature and meaning of humanness.

Historia
Already internationally acclaimed for his elegant, lucid writing on the most challenging notions in modern physics, Sean Carroll is emerging as one of the greatest humanist thinkers of his generation as he brings his extraordinary intellect to bear not only on the Higgs boson and extra dimensions but now also on our deepest personal questions. Where are we? Who are we? Are our emotions, our beliefs, and our hopes and dreams ultimately meaningless out there in the void?

Insightful

Another great delivery by Sean Carroll! One of my favorite sections is that one on consciousness, and even more impressive that the author is a physicist.

Historia
Roberts' model, called quantum space theory, has been praised for how it offers an intuitively accessible picture of 11 dimensions and for powerfully extending the insight of general relativity, eloquently translating the four forces into unique kinds of geometric distortions while offering us access to the underlying deterministic dynamics that give rise to quantum mechanics. That remarkably simple picture explains the mysteries of modern physics in a way that's fully commensurate with Einstein's Intuition.

Sloppy narrator that obviously went unchecked
Revisado: 10-31-16
I really want to listen to the whole book. But I’ve been unable to get past even the preface (i.e., the first page). The narrator has a nasally whiny tone, which is fine and I’d probably get used to it. But! The very first line of the book, and the narrator horrifically slaughters Albert Camus’ name. Come on! It’s the first page! Apparently no one in the production team listened to error-check; so sloppy production. I won’t care if this happened in a conversation with someone at a coffee shop. But this is an audiobook that I paid good money for the listening pleasure. I’m considering returning it and maybe buying the paperback.

The narrator makes it almost intolerable...
Revisado: 07-21-15
Fantastic! But the narrator has a strange staccato rhythm that took me a while to get used to. At times he sounded robotic and monotonous; other times he sounded like he was near drowning and needed to punctuated after every couple of words. I found that extremely irritating. But once I got over the reading style, I quite enjoyed the book.
