I love Kylie Scott and the other Dive Bar books. Really enjoyed them. But this one, I just can’t. Maybe I’ll try reading the book. I see trying to redeem a previously sad character.
But this narrator isn’t doing it for me. They should have had Andi Arendt narrate. This guy misses all the cues for the fun or sarcastic & tongue-in-cheek humor that Scott is so great at and I love to listen to.

Story
A bad best man’s speech can ruin a wedding. Why do we plan every detail of a perfect day and then give the groom’s idiot best friend five minutes of total power? Enter Nate (Glen Powell), a speechwriter-for-hire who helps people write incredible best man speeches. To keep the best man from embarrassing himself (and the newlyweds), Nate uses his list of don’ts: Don’t mention the exes, don’t be rated R, and don’t bum everyone out. Nate’s system never fails. That is, until he meets Dan (Nicholas Braun).

Loved the storyline and the narration. And while a good ‘summer’ read, does bring in some sage advice and touch on real truths.

Story
Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Which is how Daphne begins her new story.

Love the narrator. Brought the characters to life. I needed an easy listen for a long drive. This was perfect. Light enough - didn’t want anything heavy - but also thought provoking. Well plotted story naturally brought you to the HEA. It didn’t feel forced. Showed how people have flaws but keep trying.
Highly recommend for an entertaining read!

Ok Story. Not What I Was Hoping For
Reviewed: 05-09-24
The premise sounded fun. I was ready something lighthearted.
The story was ok. A good first draft. Some a little off or unbelievable. Loved the idea of a Rock Star Dad, but he was a cardboard cutout. And she went back & forth between being a simple country gal and being a rich man’s daughter. Both felt flat. I liked the mystery and finding out facts - nice development. But some felt rushed. I did like the way she had lots of female friends she interacted with.
Narration was awful. As the main character it was barely ok. Some mispronounced words sets your teeth on edge. A flat tone. Definitely reading it, like reading a book aloud in class. She did not bring life to the character or the story. The male characters were dreadful. And since they are in London, most characters should have British accent, or one an Australian accent. Totally missed on all accents. The worst kind of stereotype - I am using what I think it should be because I heard one on TV. Not hard to get an actor that has real accent or does them better. These were key characters.
Wouldn’t waste a credit. Try it if you have KU.

Like many others I have been awaiting Book 3 of the Kingkiller Chronicles. And in the mean time have read hundreds+ of other books and other authors.
I saw this one was coming out and hesitated. Should I get it? Will I just be disappointed and feel sad about the loss?
Glad I did get the pre-order. Wasn’t in the right head space when it came out so I decided to wait. Again, a little concern about being let down but also hopeful.
Today I listened to the whole book end to end. I was caught up in the storyline and the magic of his words. Patrick really does both well. I loved the behind the scenes look at Bast and enjoyed his interaction with the town. The storytelling was skillful and rich. You remembered the world it was built in with little touches of remarks by the characters.
Well done Patrick. Thank you for sharing your gifts.

Made me smile. And now I want to raise honeybees with these characters!

Savvy PR guru Kinsey Taylor has always defined herself by her career, not her gender. That is, until she moved from San Francisco to Chicago to be with her fiancé, who thought she wasn't taking her "job" of supporting him in his high-powered career seriously enough and promptly dumped her for a more supportive and "feminine" nurse. Narrator sounded robotic with weird emphasis on random words. Very flat tone. Painful to finish. Need to re-record.

The beat. The cheers. The thrill of the unknown. I shouldn’t leave the safety of the music arena—my last name is McKallister, after all, and I’m intimately familiar with worst-case scenarios. But I’m drawn by the talent and the turmoil behind the weary eyes of the drummer on the streets. I’ve never seen anyone my age as wild and unrestrained, a lightning bolt of electricity that never hits the same spot on his bucket drums twice. He plays with such confidence, such rage. I have to know who he is and where he learned to bang out drum solos like he owns the night. I want to help him.

I have enjoyed the whole CAKE series. Grace Note really did an excellent job of telling us the stories of Grace & Rory and tiring in with all the other main characters. I am sad to see it wrap up but look forward to other new stories coming.
The narrators were spot on for the voices and gave energy and emotion to the book. Kept me company on a long 4 hour drive (each way) and it never lagged.
