This author writes mainly BDSM. Anyone who has been in a controlling or abusive relationship should avoid this author. Otherwise her books are good examples of the genre at an attractive price. She has several anthologies available at present. For light fantasies they prove an excellent escape from everyday life, but you must be prepared to enjoy dom/submissive relationships.

l last read this novel at the time of publication in the 1970s. It hasn't lost its charm or relevance in nearly half a century . l also wish to see Kilishanra trilogy come available and To Ride Pegasus trilogy. At the moment Audible only has seriously abridged examples available. l don't buy abridged books.

l listened to the entire book, but I cringed every time the heroine's name was read out. The pronunciation is Rose a bell ...with the emphasis on Rose. Just a suggestion but could all narrators please check pronunciation of slightly unusual names on google.
Most narrators get a few words wrong , but it is not enough to spoil the whole book. This mistake absolutely wrecked it for me.

A truely riveting lustening experience. There were a number of reveals throughout the book. L.J.Shen's timing was absolutely masterful. l look forward to the next entry in this series. Sadly it is impossible to say more without ruining the story. A must read.

I listened to this some years ago read by a different narrator. It was wonnderful. Books 3 up until the last offering are highly entertaining and well presented. Don't let the first two put you off reading the rest. They are a real treat.

Gripping story

As usual l found the story gripping. However there was a consistent mistake throughout the book. The female lead had a French governess who passes away in the first chapter. Throughout the book the heroine hears the governess speak to her in memory. A French person uses ma cherie for a woman and mon cher or mon cheri for a man. In common parlance ouside of France mon cher or cheri may be used for either sex but a French governess would never have used an English colloquialism in this way. To her, her beloved female pupil would have been ma cherie.
Every time this mistake was made it took me right out of the story snd spoiled it for me.
Perhaps this can be fixed in reprints.

This book hung together really well. There were no doughy spots where things got sluggish and boredom set in. Sometimes I skip forewards in a book and read the last couple of chapters, before going back and listening to the remainder. Often I dont bother to read/listen to the middle. This book was so good that I listenened all the way through overnight without stopping to sleep. There were several interlacing themes which together motivated the hero and heroine. The one I will mention here is that of dyslexia. All 3 of my children are dyslexic. They all have university degrees and one of them has a Doctorate.
They were lucky. SPELD Association put me in touch with a tutor and we practised every night at home. My kids can now all read and write. Things like spellcheck help as does the word processor. None of them has elegent hanwriting. Their prose is also inclined to be succinct. My kids are middle aged now and they got help early on. There are many people still who fall through the cracks. Some never seek help. Others struggle as adults to overcome the hurdle. I will never forget the day when I approached my eldest's teacher with my concerns and she said." Don't worry, X is so clever that X will be able to pay someone to read and write for them. This was 40 years ago and I sought help outside the school system. There is a lot more help out there now but the families need to be supportive not ashamed.
Great job all round. Well acted as well as brilliantly written.

This book was reccomended in the body of Stephanie Meyer's Midnight Sun. I had never heard of the author before. Now I have wealth of material to read that is new to me. This book reminds me somewhat of Jane Austin in the characterisation. The canabalism for a start appears far fetched, but in fact was still much practised in many countries in Victorian times. The reader was skilled and the different voices were easy to follow. This was a delicious peek into another world.

This author blends humour, fantasy, action etc with a great storyline. Each character who crosses the pages is well rounded. I have waited some months for this book to release, listened in one sitting and then relistened to all 7 books again starting with the House Witch. Yesterday I passed the recommendation to my deaf sister who will be reading on Kindle, and later today I will purchase books 1,2 & 3 on Audible for my 2nd son's birthday present. With luck he will wait for Christmas to get the next installment. l can't wait for Tam's story to be available. Hearty congratulations to both author and narrator. Both are flawless.

Audible needs to rewrite their summary. This is the story of an impoverished downtrodden spinster. Missy develops a spine after meeting a charming divorcee and falling in love with a mysterious widower who has purchased an unspoiled nearby valley. With their help she foils her greedy male relatives and improves the lives of her numerous female relatives. There is also a batsqueak of the paranormal, but this is not apparent until the final pages of the book. The story is charming and written with great tenderness. The reader does not grate but there are a few mispronounced words.
