Story
It was supposed to be the weekend of their lives - an exclusive house party on Henry Island. Best friends Meg and Minnie are looking forward to two days of boys, booze, and fun-filled luxury. But what starts out as fun turns twisted after the discovery of a DVD with a sinister message: Vengeance is mine. And things only get worse from there. When a mysterious killer begins picking them off one by one, there's no escape. As the deaths become more violent and the teens turn on one another, can Meg find the killer before more people die?

Murder mystery

Lame. The characters didn’t do anything reasonable the entire time, the main character proved to be just a literal idiot. The book had a fun premise and got worse and worse as the story went on. The girl who read it did a good job, though.

Not great, not horrible. Writer really trivializes real things, takes you out of the story.

Story
To eight-year-old Bela, her family is her world. There’s Mommy, Daddo, and Grandma Ruth. But there is also Other Mommy, a malevolent entity who asks her every day: “Can I go inside your heart?” When horrifying incidents around the house signal that Other Mommy is growing tired of asking Bela the question over and over, Bela understands that unless she says yes, her family will soon pay. Other Mommy is getting restless, stronger, bolder. Only the bonds of family can keep Bela safe, but other incidents show cracks in her parents’ marriage. The safety Bela relies on is about to unravel.

That was eerie, and the little girl voice was perfect. The mommy voice was also great, but daddo had room for improvement. Either way, i was creeped out from the minute i turned on the book, and ynormally I’m no fan of sci fi horror but man was this good and great renching.

Story
Arthur built and operated the Propitius Hotel from 1905 until 1928, until dozens of bodies were found in his hotel, along with countless hidden torture rooms throughout the hotel. Arthur disappeared, seemingly never to be caught. He then returned—nearly 40 years later—under the guise of a priest leading a congregation of 100 people back to his hotel, where he once again committed mass murder.

Wokeness ruins stories

I’m not a fan of the sci fi stuff, I was hoping for a battle Royale style book- but the book panned out decently for not being my cup of tea. Only issue I really had with it was the constant race and sexist tropes. We get it Jon, you don’t like your own white, male self. Relax with commenting on it over and over and over, and the plight of the black man over and over over.
This is not splatterpunk. The girl narrating was pretty great, very much a dramatic reader, but well paced both in story and actual narration.
