I love the Arcane Ascension universe but...

I really love all the other books in the Arcane Ascension and related books but this series has been hard for me to get into. The most annoying problems are that the main characters are supposedly experienced climbers but are making decisions that seem to belie that. I find myself rolling my eyes often. I do not think I will continue with this series.

It seems like the women protagonists in this series, while beautiful and successful, are all suffering from crippling self-doubt and psychological trauma and lack the ability to communicate with any degree of clarity with a member of the opposite sex they are attracted to. It gets a little tiresome.

I really struggled to finish this book. The protagonist was so ambivalent in virtually every aspect of her character and constantly whining about her situation. She was supposed to be 17 but her emotional maturity came across as a 12 year old.

Having read the book in the past, I am familiar with the story and was looking forward to listening to it. However, the narrator's voice is high pitched,strident, with little to no characterization. The narrator's choice of "voice" for the male characters is especially unfortunate.
