Story
Combined into one volume, this is the definitive collection of Tolkien's five acclaimed modern classic 'fairie' tales in the vein of The Hobbit, read by Derek Jacobi. The five tales are written with the same skill, quality and charm that made The Hobbit a classic. Largely overlooked because of their short lengths, they are joined here in one volume which reaffirms Tolkien's place as a master storyteller for listeners young and old.

A glimpse of beautiful leaves!
Reviewed: 09-15-23
Each story like a leaf on Niggles tree! Or perhaps more accurately, each story like one of the pictures that didn’t get racked in to the edges of Tolkiens tree of middle earth. Delightful and a brilliant performance really brings it to life.

Story
Our world is chaotic and often feels dark and devoid of hope. And it’s not just the headlines we see every day. Our relationships are broken. A loved one’s health is failing. We’re disoriented and restless and wrestling with fear. These things are the reality of living in a fallen world. But our God is over that world. He is present in the midst of the daily ache of life. He loves us in the midst of that ache. In a series of 11 letters, Rebecca Reynolds writes to the lonely, the weary, the restless, and afraid and provides perspective and hope to find where God is in the midst of it.

Words for every heart

In short, these are words of hope and encouragement that every heart needs to hear. A candid expression that is cutting at times, I found tears in my eyes often, but the kind of cutting that is necessary for healing .

Story
It is the story of Mr. Vane, an orphan and heir to a large house - a house in which he has a vision that leads him through a large old mirror into another world. In chronicling the five trips Mr. Vane makes to this other world, MacDonald hauntingly explores the ultimate mystery of evil.

Refreshing and stimulating

A mixture of refreshing and stimulating. At times, I didn’t really know what was ‘happening’ in the story, but it was even then Poetic and enjoyable.
