I really liked this book, but it got a little frustrating near the end. Not trying to add spoilers, but I’m not crazy about storylines with no end. Hopefully he’ll wrap that plot line up soon.

Narration Problems

The book would have been great without being preachy about eating meat.. The pronunciation of “acumen” and macabre, was wrong. Acumen is not a Mexican spice and the BRE is silent in macabre. The main character was somewhat a “McGiver”. There was nothing she couldn’t do. I’ll probably read the next one, though, as good audio books can be hard to find.

I love Joe Pickett books! However this one was a little disappointing. It was too short and the two separate stories were wrapped up very quickly. Was there really a need for Joe to go to Portland? I hope the next one is back in Wyoming.

I enjoyed this book. I like this set of characters and will continue to read books with them as the main characters. The only thing that really bugs me, and perhaps this is just the difference between British pronunciation and American pronunciation, but words like “urinal”, being pronounced “ur I nal” with a long I” and “Adidas,” bugged me. But, not enough to ruin the book for me. I look forward to the next one about these characters.

Not My Favorite
Reviewed: 05-25-21
This Cork O’Connor story was not my favorite. I won’t give any spoilers, so I’ll focus on other things. I still really like David Chandler’s narration, as I’ve listened to all the CJ Box stories about Joe Pickett, (which I loved) but I actually heard stomach noises as one point. The gravely voice he uses for certain characters grated on me this time, but I think I just need a break from him for a bit. One of the reasons I started the series is because Mr. Chandler was narrating. A few noticeable swallows and stomach noises are not going to make me stop listening to books that he narrates. If you’re reading the WKK books in order, of course you must read this one too, but it just was not my favorite.
