Henry.....
Reviewed: 07-06-24
are we *supposed* to hate Henry? I've played the series twice now and I forgot how insufferable he is. t
There is putting your foot in your mouth and making bad choices..and then there's Henry. In the last book he was completely awful so many times and was forgiven for some reason. Then, right out of the gate in this book, he's already unbelievably stupid and toxic.. Vincent could do better

I have enjoyed this series in general, but I cringe and think about skipping through the parts previous characters appear. Characters that we were made to like are.. insufferable when they appear in other books. I know they are all idiots in their ways but when they are all together I couldn't stand it.

Story
Alfie Bell is . . . fine. He's got a six-figure salary, a penthouse in Canary Wharf, the car he swore he'd buy when he was 18, and a bunch of fancy London friends. It's rough, though, going back to South Shields now that they all know he's a fully paid-up pansy. It's the last place he's expecting to pull. But Fen's gorgeous, with his pink-tipped hair and hipster glasses, full of the sort of courage Alfie's never had. It should be a one-night thing, but Alfie hasn't met anyone like Fen before.

I want to love it

I've played it a few times,( I replay audiobooks a lot,) and I feel like I've given it my best shot.
Fen drives me crazy. Sure, he's allowed to be a bit weary and upset but he takes it too far. I was mercilessly bullied in school but if I were to meet up with my *high school* bullies as adults, I wouldn't approach it like he does.I might not want to be besties but I would acknowledge that we are alladults here and extend a * bit * of maturity and forgiveness.
Alfie is the worst kind of Himbo and the stuck in his rustic upbringing mindset routine isn't believable. He should have dropped it and left Fen alone.
It all feels so forced and irritating. Actual humans wouldn't push this so hard.
* it's just this book. I've enjoyed any other books I've heard from the author.

John Starkweather feels restless. Grey narration...

love the series. love the characters but cannot*stand* Grey's dialogue. I get that he's supposed to be deep and otherworldly but ...it's too slow it's comical and really takes me out of the moment. it's gotten worse as the series has continued...
