Story
A startling crime with dozens of victims. Appearing out of nowhere to horrify the quiet resort town of Sanibel Island, Florida, dozens of identical, ordinary-looking shoes float in on the tide and are washed up on the tropical beach—each one with a crudely severed human foot inside.

Excellent new narrator

Thank you very much to Audible and Jefferson Mays for letting us still “hear” the Pendergast we’ve come to know and love. Jefferson does a fantastic job picking up where the great Rene Auberjonois left off. His accent rarely falters.
The story is also back to the fun and macabre style of true Pendergast novels. And Constance rocks!

Excellent Narration!

We all know that narration can make or break it. Kobna’s narration makes it! He is so authentic you really feel you are there. I don’t get why someone would kvetch about an inhale etc in the narration; that’s what makes it real and believable! Aside from the excellent performance by Kobna, the book itself is very enjoyable. Looking forward to the next in the series.

The best American novel to emerge from World War I, A Farewell to Arms is the unforgettable story of an American ambulance driver on the Italian front and his passion for a beautiful English nurse.

Dreadfully boring
Reviewed: 07-29-21
I really don’t understand what all the hype about. This is not a great work of literature. The prose was about as good as the script for a B-movie. It was downright inane in some sections when Kathryn and Henry were speaking to each other. If you want real literature, listen to Colum McCann, Salman Rushdie, Amitav Gosh or any of the other more recent greats.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Take out the math and it is still a great story. It has humor and emotion we can all relate to. Add the math and you really get to think about the “how”. Great book.

Written by another author, this could just be a very strange story. But Murakami spins a masterful and captivating tale that makes you route for the main characters and leaves you wanting more.

Story
Under the direction of famed explorer Porter Stone, an archaeological team is secretly attempting to locate the tomb of an ancient pharaoh who was unlike any other in history. Stone believes he has found the burial chamber of King Narmer, the near mythical god-king who united upper and lower Egypt in 3200 B.C., and the archaeologist has reason to believe that the greatest prize of all - Narmer's crown - might be buried with him. No crown of an Egyptian king has ever been discovered, and Narmer's is the elusive crown of the two Egypts.

Tedious
Reviewed: 07-24-12
Sometimes Deaver needs to dispense with the minutia of the investigative process and just tell us a good story. This is one of those times. The details of the investigator's personal life were an unnecessary distraction; abridging them would help maintain a more suspenseful story. The CI101 is also far too detailed. It sometimes felt like we left a novel and entered a textbook. The strung out ending just made me want to say "enough". Not one of Deaver's best efforts.

Really makes you think about the many ways that big brother, or in this case the "brethren", are watching. But the story doesn't rely on your paranoia to be very entertaining. Fascinating and fast-paced tale with interesting characters. Can't wait for the sequel.
