Enter Cordell Logan: civilian flight instructor, would-be Buddhist, and retired military assassin.

Great Story, Narration ruined it

I had a very difficult time listening to this audiobook, I love the storyline and really wanted to be able to get into the narration but the narrator was horrible his voice was without much energy and his raspy horse voice made me think of an old smoker who drink too much whiskey which did not match the main character. He did a horrible job at female voices and definitely has no idea how to do European voices... I did not want to miss book too so I forced myself to listen.

Story
Moments before he is executed, the killer of the daughter of Hub Walker, a famous Vietnam War pilot and hero, makes a startling allegation, claiming that the real murderer is a close friend of Walker’s, a prominent U.S. defense contractor. Walker wants to hire somebody willing to spend a few days digging up information that will refute the convicted killer’s groundless but widely reported claims and will help restore his friend’s good name. That somebody, as fate would have it, is Cordell Logan....

Story
The irresistible David Freed’s first mystery is a stay-up-late-to-finish thriller. Based in sunny Rancho Bonita - “California’s Monaco”, as the city’s moneyed minions like to call it - Cordell Logan is a literate, sardonic flight instructor and aspiring Buddhist with dwindling savings and a shadowy past. When his beautiful ex-wife, Savannah, shows up out of the blue to tell him that her husband has been murdered in Los Angeles, Logan is quietly pleased. Savannah’s late husband, after all, is Arlo Echevarria, the man she left Logan for.

Story
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

Much different than Kings norm, but it was, as expected, good. Seemed to have a few loose ends, questions that were never answered that is.... but it was good.
