Story
The year is 2049. When a deadly non-viral agent intended for biowarfare spreads out of control, scientists must scramble to ensure the survival of the human race. They turn to their last resort, a plan to place genetically engineered children inside the cocoons of large-scale robots - to be incubated, birthed, and raised by machines. But there is yet one hope of preserving the human order: an intelligence programmed into these machines that renders each unique in its own right - the Mother Code. Kai is born in America’s desert Southwest, his only companion his robotic Mother, Rho-Z.

This book is an epic saga. This book is "Awesome" "Amazing" "Spectacular. I don't use these words lightly. I'm hard to please when it comes to sci fi books/movies. The annoying thing about many AI/robot stories is that the character is set in an isolated world. There's very little interaction with the environment the robot is in. There's too much introspection and there's almost always very little multi-relationships with other humans or robots. I want to read, listen or see robots/androids doing amazing things, not sitting around talking about doing amazing things. This book has it all!! I'f you've seen the movie Ex Machina, which I thought was a piece of crap. If you saw the Netflix movie "I Am Mother" BORING!!!!! This book is not those in any way... It has balance, "Oh My God" what a concept!!. It has the good, the bad and the ugly. It has robot human relationships, it has robot to robot relations and here it is "The Robot Interacts With its Environment. It's a bleeping "MIRACLE" A Writer That Get's IT. Other writers can learn a story telling lesson from him.

Almost A Great Listen
Reviewed: 08-10-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Yes, have Angie kill more rat bastards that abuse women. There was a big imbalance in the story telling for my taste. When you have a summary that "Touts" killing men who abuse women, give me more than 3/4 Retributions. Retributions, payback , JUSTICE was the main factor in me buying this book. Many abusers just need killing, period, many abusers get away with their heinous crimes. I was drawn to this book because I thought it was going to be a great read for a women's Vengeance!! Not quite, my dreams were dashed. If Hertling would have had more killings, exploring different ways to torture an abuser the listen would have been more enjoyable. Since we can't kill or torture abusers in a real life democratic society, listening in a fantasy would have been really, really cool.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Not impressed!!! A real bummer, a complete let down.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The narration was great no issues with it.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No, probably not....
Any additional comments?
Justice and punishment was not adequately served in this book....

Story
Eerie, dreamlike, set in a world that is weirdly related to our own, The Gunslinger introduces Roland Deschain of Gilead, of In-World that was, as he pursues his enigmatic antagonist to the mountains that separate the desert from the Western Sea in the first volume of The Dark Tower series. Roland, the last gunslinger, is a solitary figure, perhaps accursed, who with a strange single-mindedness traverses an exhausted, almost timeless landscape of good and evil.
