Story
Of all the dukes in all the world, why does it have to be him? Lady Alice Ancaster needs a husband, and fast, because her reckless brother is going to get himself killed, leaving the dukedom—and her future—in their repellent cousin’s clutches. The Duke of Blackwood has known Alice since childhood, and they’ve always had a special connection. But years ago he broke it, when he chose a riotous life with his two best friends instead of a reasonable one with her.

The quality of the relationship between the two main characters.
Reviewed: 03-19-25
The depth and intensity of the relationship between the two main characters, conveyed beautifully with humor and a remarkable openness between them is mesmerizing. Their knowledge of each other and patience with each other’s foibles makes for a delightful intimacy for the reader, a feeling of inclusion in their mental and emotional connection, an admiration for the complexity and the dance it is. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Descriptions of conflicting perceptions provides clarity of the conflicts in our political discourse
Reviewed: 10-22-24
The format of the book offers a manual on to how to make changes in our own understanding of opposing views, and apply those understandings to our own behaviors. It also clarifies for progressives like me the need for and manner of altering our own expression of the foundations of our political views in order to assert properly their value as opposition to those promoted by conservatives. An excellent book!

Story
Something’s gone wrong in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. We can all feel it, but if we’re being honest, most of us don’t understand it. At the end of the day, we don’t have all the facts, and if you don’t know how something works, how do you fix it? A Return to Common Sense is a concise, no-nonsense, dare we say fun, guide to how America works and a roadmap to reclaiming a government of, by, and for the people.

The presentation complex material in an enjoyable and engaging way!

Since I have followed Leigh McGowan from her earliest days on Facebook, I can truthfully say that this audiobook is a direct reflection of who she is and how she thinks. She has managed to make a subject that most Americans have never heard about before an accessible and engaging experience for even first-time people who are just beginning to understand what our politics and government are really about. She has touched on every issue vital to understanding our present predicament and clearly and directly explained how our individual thoughts and actions can affect and influence a better way forward. Bravo, Leigh!!

Near perfection!

Thoroughly enjoyable for its delightfully witty dialogue, it's sensitively drawn, complex characters, it's suspenseful, entertaining story and its ability to allow the reader to truly exist, if only for a few hours, in the century it inhabits. An accomplished and deft literary hand at work here.

A MODERN GIRLS' HEROINE FOR THE REST OF US!
Reviewed: 03-26-12
I have set myself to listen to this entire series, prompted by a desire to understand the background for the series "True Blood". I have fallen in love with this heroine! First and foremost, she is a Southern heroine in the grandest tradition. Being from the South, I so recognize and appreciate the positive essence of the current Anglo female culture in the South she represents. She speaks the truth from woman's point of view, and stands strongly for the values we wish our daughters to hold. She holds our feet to the fire, though, as she encounters and examines the more negative ones. The strength and variety of the characters in even this short novel are masterfully written and delightfully performed in this recording. I haven't had as much fun since I raced through the Twilight Saga novels eager for each new encounter with a female heroine I wanted to be. Johanna Parker's interpretation and performance are brilliant!
