Story
Kevin Taylor is an Internet-famous handyman on a mission: Find a house and renovate it in 30 days. By flipping a derelict house in a month's time and chronicling the entire thing on video for his online subscribers, he seeks to become a star. The problems that plague this property will require more than elbow grease to fix, however. Shadows throughout the home are distorted, and an enigmatic trespasser keeps showing up in his footage. Worse still are the hideous voices that issue from otherwise empty rooms in the dead of night.

Initially, I was disappointed that the narrator was British. I have had much difficulty in the past understanding the British accent and would not finish a book because of it! I was pleasantly surprised to be able to understand everything that was said.
The story is the edge of your seat kind of read that I love. Thanks. I had a hard time putting the book down many times.
The descriptions of the scenarios had me feeling that I was there!
Outstanding read. Highly recommended!

Story
Sam is excited to spend a week at her uncle's remote lake cabin. It's a chance for her to focus on her art without distractions: no neighbors, no phone, and a small radio as her only contact with the outside world. But there's something deeply unnatural lingering in the lake. The radio's news reports talk about disappearances on a nearby hiking trail. The car won't start. And Sam starts to believe she's being stalked when she catches glimpses of a tall, strange man standing at the end of her dock.

Narrator’s voice was a little too breathy.

This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Not worth the time

While the characterizations of the persons in the novel are magnificent, very detailed and descriptive storyline are above reproach, the plot is boring. Novel could be much shorter. The plot flowed smoothly. I understood every word of the narrator. The narrator was outstanding with his voice changes for each character. Very easy to picture the happenings as they occurred. Sometimes I felt like I was there.
The plot was blah. I did not appreciate the bad language, or the detailed sexual situations.
If you want an extremely lengthy, mundane novel, this is for you. No suspense, no mystery. No twisted ending.

Many stories are one of a kind. Some I advanced through as I did not like them. I did not like the language in some- the “f” word is totally unnecessary. Dark Carousel was my favorite. Generally would not recommend this tome unless you like unusual.

Faith, I tell them, is a mystery, elusive to many, and never easy to explain. Sweeping and lyrical, spellbinding and unforgettable, David Ebershoff’s The 19th Wife combines epic historical fiction with a modern murder mystery to create a brilliant novel of literary suspense. It is 1875, and Ann Eliza Young has recently separated from her powerful husband, Brigham Young, prophet and leader of the Mormon Church. Expelled and an outcast, Ann Eliza embarks on a crusade to end polygamy in the United States.

Well written tome about a subject I knew very little. Most of the novel was easy to follow but the back and forth nature from past to present was sometimes confusing. I did not like the profanity. Some otherwise raw language describing bedroom activities that was uncomfortable.
Otherwise a great education into history. Nice mention of other noteworthy 1800’s women such as Victoria Woodhull, etc. Recommended reading.
