Nope, No Revelation
Reviewed: 09-28-23
Russell Brand is humorous and lived through some real s$%*. However, that does not make his insights interesting or valuable. I am glad that he is finding himself but he has a long way to go. There are no revelations in this book. This is Russell trying to make a buck off of his crazy life through the cathartic process of writing a book. I wish him well. Please do not look to this as a self help book or a way to find meaning in life. If you want to know more about Russell and his current state of mind, have at it.
I really wanted to return this book, but couldn't since I paid for it. At least it was cheap.

Underwhelmed
Reviewed: 06-22-23
The more I listen to John and his brother the more I am disillusioned by their work. While they are very knowledgeable, they come off as preachy. The fact that John thinks he has an unbiased review of the Anthropocene shows his hubris. This is the first Audible book that I am actually going to return. While I enjoyed some of the story telling and the author, it was actually a waste of time. This is my review.

Story
Al Franken, Giant of the Senate is a book about an unlikely campaign that had an even more improbable ending: the closest outcome in history and an unprecedented eight-month recount saga, which is pretty funny in retrospect. It's a book about what happens when the nation's foremost progressive satirist gets a chance to serve in the United States Senate and, defying the low expectations of the pundit class, actually turns out to be good at it.

Flawed man who cares
Reviewed: 07-25-18
It's a shame that Al Franken was taken down by the MeTooMovement. While I don't agree with much of his politics. I do believe he cares, which is more than you can say for a lot of politicians. He was a flawed man, but then again who isn't. I still think this book is worth the listen if you like Al Franken.

Story
A hyper-fast quantum computer is the digital equivalent of a nuclear bomb: whoever possesses one will be able to shred any encryption in existence, effectively owning the digital world. The question is: Who will build it first, the United States or China? The latest of David Ignatius' timely, sharp-eyed espionage novels follows CIA agent Harris Chang into a quantum research lab compromised by a suspected Chinese informant. The breach provokes a mole hunt that is obsessive, destructive, and - above all - uncertain.

Love the technology play for this spy story. Tale as old as humanity. Well written and the audio performance enhanced the story. I highly recommend the audio book.

Story
A gifted storyteller and spiritual director, Father James Martin, SJ, invites listeners to experience the stories of the Gospels in a completely new, vivid, and exciting way to gain a deeper understanding of Jesus. Moving sequentially through the Gospels, considering not only familiar passages but also the "hidden life" of Jesus, the book offers a bold retelling of the life of Christ, faithful to the Christian tradition, while meditating on parts of the narrative that have often escaped notice.

A police officer places a GPS device on a suspected criminal's car to follow him and build a case against him. The news is full of such stories, in which new technologies lead to dilemmas that could not have been imagined just a few decades ago.

This is one of the big issues that all humans should care and be informed about. For the most part the course is even handed but there is a clear legal and liberal bent to the teacher. However, it does not diminish the value or reason to engage in this course. Kudos to the great courses for offering this course.

Definitely a must read or listen for anyone that is concerned about what so called experts are saying. We all need to be wary of predictions and statistics especially in the hands of governments and corporations. This is an excellent primer on the topic.
