Story
Until the war in Iraq, the Special Forces were the military's counterinsurgency experts. Their specialty was going behind enemy lines and training insurgent forces. In Afghanistan, they toppled the Taliban by transforming Northern Alliance fighters into cohesive units. But in the almost nine years since, Special Forces units have forgone their previous mission, instead focusing on offensive raids.

Second Hand Stories- Perspective from the FOB
Reviewed: 09-07-18
Dont waste your time or money. The author went to iraq but had to stay on the FOB and the stories he tell are either told poorly or he just didnt get the full story. There are no stories that keep you listening, tons of other books out there told by those who actually experienced the wars first hand.

Best Business Book!
Reviewed: 09-07-18
Top 3 book ive ever read. I read 100-120 book a year and this book is one of the few sales/ business books that has specific and practical technique that is presented in a simple, clear and easy to apply. Dont put of reading this book, I promise you wont regret it. The book it reminds me of is extreme ownership by Jocko Willink, they have similar styles in explaning the principle with good stories.

Story
At 24 years of age, U.S. Army Ranger Sean Parnell was named commander of a forty-man elite infantry platoon - a unit that came to be known as the Outlaws - and was tasked with rooting out Pakistan-based insurgents from a mountain valley along Afghanistan's eastern frontier. Parnell and his men assumed they would be facing a ragtag bunch of civilians, but in May 2006 what started out as a routine patrol through the lower mountains of the Hindu Kush became a brutal ambush.

BEST BOOKS ON AFGHANISTAN WAR! GREAT STORY & STYLE
Reviewed: 04-12-18
If you could sum up Outlaw Platoon in three words, what would they be?
Amazing story, humble soldiers, great presentation! This is one of the best books about the war in Afghanistan and Iraq. I read at least 2 books a week and have been listening to military books for the last year. This is in the top 5 for sure, and I'd probably give it top 2 or 3 out of the last 50 books I've read about OIF & OEF (Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom).
What other book might you compare Outlaw Platoon to and why?
Service, No easy Day, Hard Measures, Enhanced Interrogation, The Operator, Pale Horse, Lone Survivor, No Hero, Into the Fire, Roughneck 391, American Sniper, 13 hours, Civilian Warriors, The Reaper, Playing to the Edge, Fearless; the Undaunted Courage of Adam Brown, Red Platoon, The Killing School, Into the Fire, Night Stalkers, Navy SEAL Dogs, Trident K9 Warriors, 12 Strong, Never Quit, The Way of the Reaper.
Which scene was your favorite?
The first main firefight on the first patrol. The way this book is written is very good! It keeps your attention and gives you a background of necessary info to the story, but doesn't give any crap that is boring or just filler. Doesn't waste time telling pointless information or stuff just to make the book longer.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Outlaw Platoon, humble and heroic soldiers with deadly discipline.
