Story
Barcelona, 1945: Just after the war, a great world city lies in shadow, nursing its wounds, and a boy named Daniel awakes on his 11th birthday to find that he can no longer remember his mother's face. To console his only child, Daniel's widowed father, an antiquarian book dealer, initiates him into the secret of the Cemetery of Forgotten Books, a library tended by Barcelona's guild of rare-book dealers as a repository for books forgotten by the world, waiting for someone who will care about them again.

I was recommended this book by someone that said it's his favorite book ever! I loved the author's character building and how he ties them together throughout the book. I laughed out loud at some of the things the friend of Daniel says! Clever and very entertaining! Highly recommend this book!

Story
In 1954, 63-year-old Maine farmer Annie Wilkins embarked on an impossible journey. She had no money and no family, she had just lost her farm, and her doctor had given her only two years to live. But Annie wanted to see the Pacific Ocean before she died. She ignored her doctor’s advice to move into the county charity home. Instead, she bought a cast-off brown gelding named Tarzan, donned men’s dungarees, and headed south in mid-November, hoping to beat the snow.

This book is so easy to listen to...I could not stop! The true story of a remarkable woman and her horses and dog that do what seems impossible! I thoroughly enjoyed the look into 1950s life and bits of history on the cities and states as she traveled from Maine to California! I recommend this book even if you are not an equestrian!

Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business. Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

Ruth Wariner was the 39th of her father's 42 children. Growing up on a farm in rural Mexico, where authorities turned a blind eye to the practices of her community, Ruth lives in a ramshackle house without indoor plumbing or electricity. At church, preachers teach that God will punish the wicked by destroying the world and that women can ascend to heaven only by entering into polygamous marriages and giving birth to as many children as possible.

It's another good story about the kids of polygamist families if the Mormon church. The story is good however the monotone of the author/reader was hard to listen to. Would have been SO much better if a professional had done the performance.

The weaving of these two women through time and different eras is perfect. One a Jewish girl in 1940 and the other a young woman in 2010. Fascinating history of Moroccan life and politics during WW2 and the many Jewish people that escaped to Casablanca on their journey to try and get to America. After having spent time in Morocco during my youth...I wish I could have read this 50 years ago! This book does not disappoint!
