The narration is good but the story is pretty hard to believe. I like most of the authors books but this one is not one of the best.

Story
Two years ago, Olivia Martindale left behind her Montana hometown and her husband, Jace, certain it was the best decision for both of them. Back temporarily to protect her almost-adopted daughters from their biological mother, she discovers an old, handwritten cookbook in the attic. Its pages are stained and torn, their edges scorched by flame. Some have been smeared by water or tears. The recipes are written in different hands and in different languages.

Terrible narration

Why do they switch narrators in the middle of a series?? So frustrating. I enjoyed the first 3 books in this series, but the new narrator on this book is terrible. You would never know a woman was speaking and most of his accents sound like he has a speech impediment. It has ruined the series ending for me.

Story
Alpha Station, orbiting the world of the atevi, has taken aboard 5,000 human refugees from a destroyed station in a distant sector of space. With supplies and housing stretched to the breaking point, it is clear that the refugees must be relocated down to the planet, and soon. But not to the atevi mainland, rather to the territory reserved for humans: the island of Mospheira. Tabini-aiji, the powerful political head of the atevi, tasks his brilliant human diplomat, Bren Cameron, to negotiate with the Mospheiran government.

Had to drag myself through this one

Would you try another book from C. J. Cherryh and/or Daniel Thomas May?
Yes, because the first books in this series are good.
What could C. J. Cherryh have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
This book was boring!! All dialogue no action.
Have you listened to any of Daniel Thomas May’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Daniel is a good narrator.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I was very disappointed at the agonizingly slow pace of this book. I have very much enjoyed the previous books in the series, but I suspect you could skip this one and not miss much.

The narrator ruined it for me
Reviewed: 05-25-15
Would you listen to The Highland Henchman again? Why?
I enjoyed the book although the story was a bit repetitious of the first in the series.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Why do these series have to keep changing narrators?? You get used to one narrator and then get slapped in the ear with a new one and you have to learn all over again the voices of the characters. And the narrator of this book used such a thick accent for many characters, especially in the beginning, that you couldn't even under what he was saying.

Usual Kingsbury

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I've tried several Kingsbury books now and most of them are very depressing. They always have a message, but you are left feeling very down until you get to the message.
Would you be willing to try another book from Karen Kingsbury? Why or why not?
I've tried 5. No more.
How could the performance have been better?
This narrator is very one dimensional. There is little if any voice difference between characters. The story is read well, but not performed.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No
