Story
In this fascinating account, Ann Rule delivers a tour de force: a whirlwind of misguided love, denial, guilt, and passions out of control; a series of brilliantly manipulated crimes; the bizarre and horrifying tale of two families brought to ruin; and, at the center of it all, the heartless, supremely selfish sociopath whose evil hid behind soft words and gentle manners, but who destroyed—without mercy—those who loved her.

Great book, poor narration
Reviewed: 12-01-23
I really enjoyed this story as I have all Anne Rule's work. However, the narration was extremely cringey. Her depiction of southerners was offensive. She spoke with an accent that sounded like a parody of southerners. No one talks that way! Her depiction sounded like someone from Cival war times or something, or perhaps the movie Gone With The Wind. it was ridiculous and took away from my enjoyment of the audio book.

Story
In The Lost Girls, John Glatt tells the truly amazing story of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight - who were kidnapped, imprisoned, and repeatedly raped and beaten in a Cleveland house for over a decade by Ariel Castro - and their amazing escape in May 2013, which made headlines all over the world.

It didn't cost a credit

I enjoyed the book overall, but the narration was lacking. The choice to use an Australian narrator was a bit weird. Something about his vocal inflections was off-putting at times. It sounded like he was reading a news article from a teleprompter, very detached and emotionless for such an emotionally driven true crime novel.
My heart goes out to these survivors. I refuse to call them victims because they are so much more than that. The torment they endured is heartbreaking and utterly unfamothable. I also refuse to speak this monster's name. Such an egocentric piece of garbage. Imagine whining about being abused to someone that you've enslaved and tortured.

Story
Ann Rule was working on the biggest story of her career, tracking the trail of victims left by a brutal serial killer. Little did this future best-selling author know that the savage slayer she was hunting was the young man she counted among her closest friends. Everyone's picture of a natural winner, Ted Bundy was a bright, charming, and handsome man with a promising future as an attorney. But on January 24, 1989 Bundy was executed for the murders of three young women - and had confessed to taking the lives of at least thirty-five more women from coast to coast.

The book itself was engrossing and very well written, but the narration was horrendous. The way she pronounced Volkswagen and Lake Sammamish was super cringey. I'm not even from Washington state and I know how to pronounce Sammamish. she's the only person in the world that pronounces those words like that. Also, her performance of the southern accent sounds like a really bad parody or intentional camp. No one in the southeast has talked like that since the civil war era. I think her performance of the accent came directly from Gone With The End.

Story
In 1994, Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson were brutally murdered at her home in Brentwood, California. O. J. Simpson was tried for the crime, but was ultimately found not guilty of criminal charges. The victims' families brought civil cases against Simpson, in which he was found liable for willfully and wrongfully causing the deaths of Ron and Nicole by committing battery with malice and oppression. The Goldman family views this book as Simpson's confession.

The narration was phenomenal and he sounded almost exactly like OJ, the similarity was uncanny. Though, I have one little nitpick which is his breathing was very loud. I know it seems petty, but it was very distracting at times. Other than that, very phenomenal job.
OJ is the most self serving narcissist I've ever heard. Everything was Nicole's fault and he was the innocent victim in all of this. He tried so hard to paint himself as the mild mannered voice of reason which was just absolute garbage. It was so easy to read between the lines and see right through his BS.
