In this poignant, perceptive, witty novel, Gary D. Schmidt brings authenticity and emotion to multiple plot strands, weaving in themes of grief, loss, redemption, achievement, and love. Following the death of her closest friend in summer 1968, Meryl Lee Kowalski goes off to St. Elene's Preparatory Academy for Girls, where she struggles to navigate the venerable boarding school's traditions and a social structure heavily weighted toward students from wealthy backgrounds.

A tale of accomplishment…

The story was all the emotions rolled into a tale of triumph. The two main characters made me care about them from the start and their stories intertwining keep me wanting to listen at the edge of my seat. Amazing, triumphant, hilarious, and heartbreaking wrapped up in one story. A great continuation to “Wednesday’s Wars.”

Tension is high at the Royal Institute of Magic, as the directors of each of the departments - Spellswords, Wardens, Traders, Scholars and Diplomats - work together with their allies to push back the dark elf invasion, led by King Suktar. But Ben Greenwood knows the truth: the only real way they are going to win is if he and the Guardians do the unthinkable and infiltrate the heart of the dark elf homeland - ending the evil king’s rule once and for all.

I have been looking for a new book series, and the fantasy genre. I decided to give the first book a try, and was hooked. I have enjoyed the whole series and would highly recommend this to any young reader or old reader, as an exciting adventure, for all ages.

This story kept me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning.

To compare the story and series to any other magical tale would be a disservice to the authors brilliance of creating a magical world for youth. Making connections to real life, emotional issues, and having the heroin choose, makes you root even harder for her success… I cannot wait until the third book.

Story
Amari Peters has never stopped believing her missing brother, Quinton, is alive. Not even when the police told her otherwise, or when she got in trouble for standing up to bullies who said he was gone for good. So when she finds a ticking briefcase in his closet, containing a nomination for a summer tryout at the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs, she’s certain the secretive organization holds the key to locating Quinton - if only she can wrap her head around the idea of magicians, fairies, aliens, and other supernatural creatures all being real.

Magic for all…teaching inclusion!
Reviewed: 07-06-23
I have been looking for a more inclusive fantasy series. Amari did not disappoint. The story and characters show how real humanity deals with change, and working together for the common good helps everyone. Amari is given choices and situations throughout the book, when she make a choice she thinks about how it will affect not only herself but others. Even though this is a fantasy fiction it has real-world lesson’s embedded. I will recommend this to all my students.

The hilarious and heartwarming account of Miranda and her life changing dog, the inimitable and most lovable Peggy. Hello dear audiobook browser and welcome to Peggy and Me. The story of my life since getting a beautiful Shih-Tzu Bichon Frise cross puppy (I call the breed a Shitty Frise - fun) in the form of Peggy.

I have watched her comedy sitcom, I have seen her comedy show, and I have read her first book. Peggy and Me is a wonderful story of real life with a pet and trying to navigate the world. I listen to the audible and read the book too, I laughed, cried, and sympathized with every story.
