Story
The North Yorkshire moors are always a magical place, but they’re particularly enchanting at the holidays... especially if one gets to travel back in time to a Victorian Christmas. For Bronwyn Dale, it is the stuff of dreams. Fancy dress balls, quirky small-town traditions, even that classic one-horse open sleigh, complete with jingle bells.

I absolutely loved this novella! The story is full of imagery of theVictorian Christmas season, and the characters' relationships left me smiling with definite holiday "warm fuzzies."

Good Story, Exceptional Voice Actor
Reviewed: 07-18-21
I started to title this "Best Voice Actor...," but her character voices have very little differentiation. However, every other aspect of her work is superb in this (and I plan to listen to her other titles right away). Truly interesting line readings make up for whatever perceived lack there is in characterizations. I found myself eager to return to what is an interesting story, but primarily to listen to her. A voice actor can ruin even an exceptionally good story, or create an improved experience of a mediocre tale. In this instance, both story and reader were delightful!

Almost good

A frequent problem with readers: dialogue readings may be good, but in the expositive sections, the incessant and unrelenting up-lilt at end of sentences is excruciating to listen to. I am so happy to return to reading the text.

Not as interesting as the previous
Reviewed: 05-30-19
Okay story. Preferred the previous ones, both for plot and characterizations. Narrator has a pleasant voice, but her reading was so annoying that I was tempted several times to return the book. That, no doubt, negatively impacted my enjoyment of the story. Perhaps it's my own long-ago theatre training, but the incessant "up-lilt" at the end of 95% of sentences--ie, wherein almost every sentence was voiced as if it were a question--was almost unendurable.

Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig. It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview - to see if I'd mesh with their "special" clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That's the definition of fitting in, right? I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they...offered me the job?
