In the mist of all these Fan boys/girls, this probably isn't going to play well, but if anyone pays attention, it's clear that the attempts to predict "current events" for the times when this book was being written have failed miserably. The tell is in the time lines that were predicted by the astrologer working with Cannon, that was able to set fairly exact dates for the predictions to come about. Most of these dates were in the late 1980s, all of the 1990s, and certainly at the year 2000. It's now 2024, and well, NONE of them happened. The Pope was not assassinated. No one from the middle east has rose up as the Anti-Christ and taken over Russia, the middle east, and even China. All the offered up candidates to even do so have been, at this point in time, squished like a bug and are all dead. And even though we were supposed to have had major - earth altering earthquakes and mostly be dead by 2000 - here we are. I'm not here to bash Cannon's work. I've actually been regressed using her methods because it seemed like a valid technique. I will say however, that this all is a very interesting story to listen to, whether it is real or not.

The purpose of this book is to clarify, to tell the truth, and to share my energies with you so that you can begin the transformation of your mind and, therefore, the transformation of your heart and your world. It is in the misteachings that have been associated with my name that much death and pain has been caused and that much guilt and self-recrimination has been expressed. That was not my purpose; that was not my lesson.

I have been a studier, practitioner, and follower of esoteric, historical, and anthropological information around religion for decades. I have always been extremely interested in this Jesus person with a mind toward understanding any historical information known about him. Over these decades, I've come to some conclusions about religion in general based on historical, provable knowledge as well as anthropological finds of ancient documents from the times of Jesus. I would say that in general, I had become aware of 90% of the material in this book in these many decades. Some of it is still speculative from a historical point (not yet 100% accepted by historians), but even from an early age, many in the spiritual community (of which I was also very much a part of) was speaking of many of these concepts. This is, without a doubt, the most concise, well organized, and powerful rendition of the truth of our spiritual nature I've ever seen. It is absolute truth. Many of the historical references (such as Mary's journey to France, Jesus' Journey to India, etc.) have historical precedent. To this DAY, there are shrines in France and legends galore about Mary moving there. There are monuments in India to Jesus as well. There is ABSOLUTE proof that the bible as we have it today, is mostly a document that was almost completely changed from the original versions. Many those missing texts that are talked about in this book have partially been found in major archeological finds, and there are some references to Jesus being married to Mary ("and he kissed her on the lips often"). Many are hating on this as expected because it is very blasphemous, but it needs to be. The real truth has to be told, and this book is it.

Jacob Tomsky has worked in hotels for more than a decade, doing everything from valet parking to manning the front desk. He's checked you in, checked you out, separated your white panties from the white bed sheets, parked your car, tasted your room service, cleaned your toilet, denied you a late check out, given you a wake-up call, eaten M&Ms out of your mini-bar, laughed at your jokes, and taken your money. And in Heads in Beds, he pulls back the curtain on the hospitality business.

Probable one of the best books I've listened to
Reviewed: 08-31-14
I don't do reviews. Just takes up to much time, but for this book, I just had to. This has got to be the best book I've listened to on audible. It was one of those rare situations where I just couldn't stop listening until it was over. Granted, I'm big into a book that has good stories, and if it has some extremely useful information scattered in there to then it's a real winner for me. This book was all that, plus it was just so well read, by a great story teller. The book had me constantly laughing and totally into the story line, but more than that, I can't WAIT to try out the many hints, tips, and "inside scoop" ideas that the author presents. As he says, it's just a hustle, but this hustle can get you great stays at America's hotels because, for once, it will be you that knows how to make the machine work. Super great job. Loved every minute of it.

In this book, we travel inside Emily's and Paul's brains as they attempt to sort the vast quantities of information they're presented with, figure out how to prioritize it, organize it, and act on it. Fortunately for Emily and Paul, they're in good hands: David Rock knows how the brain works - and more specifically, how it works in a work setting. Rock shows how it's possible for Emily and Paul, and thus the listener, not only to survive in today's overwhelming work environment but succeed in it - and still feel energized and accomplished at the end of the day.

The best book I've every purchased

I've been reading (listening) to both self help and science books for many years, and I'll have to say that this is the best one yet. It can't be overstated how useful this book can be to anyone who works in corporate america, but the insights are equally useful to everyday living as well. Now granted, you probably need to be one who enjoys learning, and maybe scientific insight type of books to be as pumped as I am about the book, but the way the material is presented, any self help type can really enjoy this. I see myself listening to this book multiple times to make sure that I extract all the lessons, because I certainly intend to apply these insights into my everyday thinking. Great job.

Story
Since the introduction of dietary guidelines calling for reduced fat intake in the 1970s, a strange phenomenon has occurred: Americans have steadily, inexorably become heavier, less healthy, and more prone to diabetes than ever before. After putting more than two thousand of his at-risk patients on a wheat-free regimen and seeing extraordinary results, cardiologist William Davis has come to the disturbing conclusion that it is not fat, not sugar, not our sedentary lifestyle that is causing America’s obesity epidemic—it is wheat.

The program works, but the listen is technical
Reviewed: 11-30-11
Overall, the concepts in this book really hit home for me. I've been struggling for awhile with what could possibly be so bad about Wheat. It's been consumed for far longer than 10,000 years, and many cultures existed for centuries with no "Western Diseases" consuming it. This books answers that question with spades, but be warned. The author dives headfirst into a lot of technical jargen, and the book could have gotton to the point in about 1/2 the amount of words. The bottom line however is that I tried it, and it worked fabulously well. The belly did go down, doing nothing more than just stopping bread. Not oats, or rice, or grits. Just Wheat. It just went away. Took about 3 weeks, and it was slow, but it worked. Mild joint pain also cleared up.

SuperFreakonomics challenges the way we think all over again, exploring the hidden side of everything with such questions as: How is a street prostitute like a department-store Santa? What do hurricanes, heart attacks, and highway deaths have in common? Can eating kangaroo save the planet? Levitt and Dubner mix smart thinking and great storytelling like no one else.

This one is just as good as the first, but what I really liked was that the authors really tried to zoom in on the current topics that we are all concerned with. Subjects like Global warming and car seats are serious business to many these days. It was very refreshing to hear these topics and many more from the different prospectives that these freakenomics books offer. Very enjoyable listen.

I've been engaged in both science learning and self improvement for a long time, but I have never heard a book that so clearly explains some (at least to me) new concepts of how our minds do in fact affect our personal environment. This very well explained and interesting information about the connection between our physical biology and our mental and physical environment will give you an entirely new and powerful way of looking at how you might change your life for the better.

Your own therapy session in a book
Reviewed: 01-28-05
This is, without a doubt, one of the best self help books that I've ever come across. Be prepared however for some intense learnings that may at first seem un-familiar, unless you have actually been to a therapist/counselor before. This is a high powered therapy session for the masses on tape. Having had formal training as a counselor at the Masters level, I consider the approach used here to be outstanding. This is not however a casual, read it on the beach type book. It requires effort to use these techniques, so if you really don't intend to actually DO anything in the way of improving yourself, then go find The Time Travelers Wife and download it. That one works on the beach.

A must read if you want to be a chef
Reviewed: 01-05-04
First of all, if you are offended by graphically strong language, then just forget this book. It will offend you to no end as has been pointed out numerous times. The book is also quite long, and at times I lost interest as the subject matter seemed to drag on a bit. The book also seems, at least to me, to wander in its organization, moving first from pre chefdome and early influences to first job, then to 10th job, then oops, I forgot about that episode right after the first job, and so on. This is not a bad thing, and certainly might be considered proper literary organization by some, but I think this is what caused some of the loss of interest. Having said these few critical things, overall this is a really good, funny, and interesting book. If you are considering going into this business, starting a second career or you have a son or daughter that's considering it, it's a must read. Even if your not, this is a great book just to find out what's going on in those New York kitchens. Granted, some of you may never eat the fish special on Monday again, or every go to another brunch, but you will have a much greater appreciation for what those cooks have to go through to get your silly little piece of meat cooked and on your table. And I think that along the way, you'll laugh a few times as well.
