Story
Eve looks like an ordinary 12-year-old girl, but there’s nothing ordinary about her. She has no last name. No parents or guardian. She’s on the run from a dangerous and secretive organization that will stop at nothing to track her down. And most astonishing of all: she’s a robot, a product of Eden Laboratories. When Eve discovers the truth, she realizes everything she thought she knew about herself is a lie. Eve manages to escape, fleeing the lab, the only home she’s ever known.

Worth the listen

I'm rarely impressed with the free Audible books each month. I took a chance on this because it looked mildly interesting. I will say, I am far, far older than the intended audience age bracket. I do gravitate toward a lot of sci-fi/fantasy stuff, so figured, what the heck? I really enjoyed the amount of effort put into this production with multiple voice actors and sound effects, rather than some person just sitting on a stool under a microphone reading page by page and creating different voices for the characters. I think it adds a lot more depth. I was drawn into the story pretty quickly, and by the end, I was left wanting more. I do think the ending was somewhat weak as if the author wasn't sure what to do with it and it felt a bit rushed. Overall, particularly for the young reader (listener), I think this is a really neat story.

Story
When marine private Oliver Chadwick Gardenier is killed in the marine barrack bombing in Beirut, somebody who might be Saint Peter gives him a choice: Go to heaven, which, while nice, might be a little boring, or return to earth. The Boss has a mission for him, and he's to look for a sign. He's a marine: He'll choose the mission. Unfortunately, the sign he's to look for is "57". Which, given the food services contract in Bethesda Hospital, creates some difficulty. Eventually it appears that God's will is for Chad to join a group called Monster Hunters International.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I should have heeded the reviews. It’s all true. This character is a narcissistic, egomaniacal sex addict who is supposedly indestructible, and has serious mommy issues. And omg, the unexplained abbreviations! It’s like a train wreck, but I won’t read any others, for sure. If you want a GOOD supernatural book / series, take a look at Nightstalkers - Area 51
