This is a great start to a new fantasy romance series. Aly is bereft after an attack on her academy and the loss of her friends, and the dragon quint is feeling similarly after the same attack cost them greatly.
I loved that this story did not have Aly present great magic out the gate. She was admittedly a mediocre pyromancer, forced into impossible situations where she shined (sometimes). It’s not often we don’t get chosen one vibes off the bat.
Joining the quint that was present during the attack was a surprise, and it was not as smooth as any of them assumed. I appreciated the fact that everything was not smooth sailing. It added the the characters depth and growth.
Her relationship with Jax was sweet and spicy, and I think it will aid in her attempt to bond with the rest of the quint.
The magic system was unique and interesting, as were the makeup of the villains of this book.
The plot for possible corruption within their hierarchy was noted and I’m looking forward to uncovering the overarching plot in the next book.
The audio performances were fantastic.
