Historia
Dip below the ocean’s surface and you are soon confronted by forms of life that could not seem more foreign to our own: sea sponges, soft corals, and serpulid worms, whose rooted bodies, intricate geometry, and flower-like appendages are more reminiscent of plant life or even architecture than anything recognizably animal. Yet these creatures are our cousins. As fellow members of the animal kingdom — the Metazoa— they can teach us much about the evolutionary origins of not only our bodies, but also our minds.

peters voice is pleasant, i feel that anyone reading his works would be inadequate. i do appreciate the work being done by this man, and consideration should be given to animal with a gradient or levels of consciousness. however towards the end peter makes a couple assertions in that robots/ ai cannot be made conscious by replicating the patterns of human mind. it is asserted that there's something still missing from them which cannot be simulated, i feel this assertion is unfounded and had no supporting argument, which later on he acknowledges robots may one day become conscious(making that whole segmentkind of useless as it supported nothing else). besides that end piece, this is a great read for anyone interested in ethics and animal rights.

Historia
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

Historia
How can we make intelligent decisions about our increasingly technology-driven lives if we don’t understand the difference between the myths of pseudoscience and the testable hypotheses of science? Pulitzer Prize-winning author and distinguished astronomer Carl Sagan argues that scientific thinking is critical not only to the pursuit of truth but to the very well-being of our democratic institutions.

with the recent election of 2016, and the upcoming election of 2020 I feel this book should be mandatory reading at the polls... so much of this is even more applicable to certain campaigns of today than when it was written.

Historia
"The Apology of Socrates" is one of the earliest existing documents of Greek philosophy - everything earlier was lost and is known only through quoted fragments in later works, like those of Plato himself. Rightly so, the Apology is still, all by itself, an excellent introduction to Western philosophy and traditionally the first complete text read in the formal study of Classical Greek. Although the meaning has changed through time, the Greek word apología simply and precisely meant a defense, or a defense speech.

the man is unwilling to beg and plead for life, the apology of Socrates is not in sniveling and sobbing but a well rounded and based defense of one of our wisest yet.

Richard Dawkins' brilliant reformulation of the theory of natural selection has the rare distinction of having provoked as much excitement and interest outside the scientific community as within it. His theories have helped change the whole nature of the study of social biology, and have forced thousands to rethink their beliefs about life.

Richard's writing style is intentional that so its easiest for even the most novice in biology can understand such complex and nuanced processes on at least a surface level, in comparison to biology books I've read in the past ie on the origin of the species, this was a delightful experience which will likely enjoyed again in a week or so.

Revisado: 06-11-20
the soothing voice of dion graham is reminesceint of those long forgotten bedside tales, this pairs wonderfully with carl's writting style qhich can best be summerized by a very enthusiastic friend sitting across from you at the campfire. Carl sagan is a masterfull writer and is able to cover a wide breath of topics from religion to science, from life to death, without rambling and seamlessly transitioning between. broca's brain is truly a disection of carl sagan's brain as proposed at the begining, starting with an acknoledgement of those before him, then delving into his passion of science, his inquiries of religion, his birth and finally his death.
