Great portrayal of Wyoming

This talented writer captured the essence of Wyoming and its people - harsh, fierce, determined, and a lot of stubborn! Her descriptions reminded me of a road trip I took across the state some 20 years ago. I had never before seen such colors when I encountered a rainstorm on the prairie, and the ceaseless wind seemed to erode my sanity. It was a memorable trip, but I don't think I left anything there that I need to retrieve, except perhaps in the Tetons. Nevertheless, I enjoyed these stories immensely!

The book was very engaging and kept my interest. The narrator did an excellent job in portraying each of the characters. Well done!

YoYo gives an engaging account of his life as a musician and otherwise. The interludes on the cello are enjoyable, as well.

Would you try another book from A. G. Riddle and/or Edoardo Ballerini?

Probably not

Would you ever listen to anything by A. G. Riddle again?

I doubt it.

Was Pandemic worth the listening time?

I only made it through about half of the book. The plot moved slowly, and I lost interest as the author moved through minutia that simply did not contribute to the story. I was disappointed.

I worked in Alaska for several years in the 1970s and acquired a fairly good working knowledge of the varied cultures within the state. Working closely with the Alaska Native community, I grew to understand and love the people I worked with.
Michener did his research, and I was pleased to learn many things I had not previously known. The book held my interest throughout the 57+ hours of listening.
I caught McKeever's many mispronunciations of local names in the narration, and it would have been nice, had he done his research as well as the author. Nevertheless, I'll give him a pass on this, since there are so many names and places to learn. It takes living there for a while and hearing these pronunciations repeatedly to get it right. After all, those of us who were not born in Alaska were all Chechakoes at some time or another!

I really enjoyed listening to Cannery Row. Prior to this, my only exposure with this was seeing the movie with Nick Nolte and Debra Winger. The book is similar in tone to the movie, but much different in content. In the book, here is no Suzy (played by Debra Winger), Hazel didn't break Doc's arm, there is no Seer, Doc was not a baseball player who got out of the business after throwing a pitch that seriously injured another player. The madam is Dora in the book, but her name is Fauna in the movie. The movie has no Asian grocer, who is a main character in the book.
Yet, I thoroughly enjoyed the book as pure, unabridged Steinbeck, despite my ever-growing amazement at Hollywood's licentious treatment of classic literature.

Would you consider the audio edition of 81 Days Below Zero to be better than the print version?

Don't know. Are there plans for a movie, based on the book?

What was one of the most memorable moments of 81 Days Below Zero?

Figuring out just where the plane crashed and where he finally got back to civilization. I consulted maps of AK to try to figure this out.

What about Richard Ferrone’s performance did you like?

Very good rendition. Pleasing voice, good pace.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I was quite engaged in the book but knew I wouldn't finish it in one hearing.

Any additional comments?

I lived in Alaska for a while, so it was good to get a historical perspective on Alaska's involvement in WW2, as well as the story of the pilot lost in the wilderness.
