Story
St. Peter, also known as Simon Peter of Cephas, is considered the first Pope of Rome, yet St. Peter had humble beginnings as a fisherman. Later he became one of the 12 Apostles of Jesus. He was ordained by Jesus Christ as "the Rock of My Church" (Matt 16:17). Jesus said further, "Simon son of Jonah, you are blessed!" "Because it was no human agency that revealed this to you but my father in heaven. So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my church. And the gates of the underworld can never overpower it."

Story
Bill Bryson has been an enormously popular author both for his travel books and for his books on the English language. Now, this beloved comic genius turns his attention to science. Although he doesn't know anything about the subject (at first), he is eager to learn, and takes information that he gets from the world's leading experts and explains it to us in a way that makes it exciting and relevant.

a short story of the unproven THEORY of evolution
Reviewed: 11-22-16
If you believe in creationism and want to stay that way, do not read this book. 90% of the book is dedicated to explaining the unproven theory of evolution as if it is fact. there are a few parts that are interesting because they ARE scientific FACT, but not enough to make it worth listening to the entire book. if Darwin is your god then by all means read the book, if not don't waste your time. this is the first book by Bill Bryson that I was disappointed in.

this book has very little to do with backpacking. It is simply a list of common sense tips for traveling abroad. if you plan to travel around the world maybe 10 out of the hundred tips will be useful for you. many of the tips that are not common sense need further explanation.
