Story
As a wielder of domestic magic, Finlay Ashowan likes to keep his affairs as neat and orderly as his kitchen. But between his work for the King and Queen of Daxaria and a new (secret) relationship with Lady Annika Jenoure, his life is anything but tidy. For one thing, if Annika and Fin are to continue their romance, they’ll need to sort out the pesky issue of Fin’s being a commoner—before Annika is forced into a political marriage that interferes with her own carefully laid plans. For another, pressure is mounting as the war with Troivack draws ever closer.

Repeated Violence Against Children
Reviewed: 08-06-23
As die-hard Harry Potter fans, we’ll aware of the violence in that series, it actually has nothing in this one. The children (who are younger than Harry) are physically attacked causing bloodshed. I listened to this with my 8 year old daughter… the narrator is lethargic at reading his own material :( I’ve never given such a poor overall rating on a book before :( Just thought I’d warn other parents.

This story, read and reading is memorable in the most heart-warming, mysterious and spooky way. A favorite of mine (46) and my daughters (8) though we had to pause several times to explain vocabulary words and subtleties in the plot. Highly recommend to anyone who loves a funny (yes funny!) creepy tale.

Story
As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

Story
Corporate coach Allison Clarke was on a plane to Atlanta when she realized that in order to fully live, she had to first be surrounded by death. Sounds strange, doesn't it? Not to Allison, a fearless mother of two who built her own consulting firm from the ground up. To Allison, it felt like a challenge, and as soon as she got home, she met with a funeral director. Her idea was simple: attend the funerals of exceptional strangers and learn from their adventurous lives.

So Shallow!
Reviewed: 09-04-18
I’ve read 30 books on death and dying and this one is painfully shallow. Though it is trying to inspire people to live a positive and full life, it mostly just ignores the importance of benefits of acknowledging the pain in life and how that is a beautiful part of living. Grief, pain, failures, and fear are part of the human story. We do not need to be super humans to everyone in every situation. We need more depth and genuine full stories of people’s lives in their obituaries and eulogies and in books about life—and death. Worry less about what others will say about you and more about how you are simply living your life.

Story
With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends. Ireland. County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations - and where her destiny awaits. Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses.
