Story
When a master-craftsmen dwarf is fired, he threatens retaliation. The rogues-for-hire known as Riyria are commissioned to find and stop him. Traveling to the paradise resort of Tur Del Fur, the two are granted a lavish allowance that, along with the easy job, promises to turn the trip into a vacation. Everything would have been perfect except that the disgruntled employee’s last name is Berling and the target of his wrath is the legendary towers of Drumindor.

My Fav, but Not #1 ;-)
Reviewed: 12-19-24
DRUMINDOR was nothing like I expected it to be, but in all good ways. I should say "mostly" not what I expected, because the lore I had been looking forward to as seemingly assured by the title WAS there. There was just a whole lot more in addition.
This was my favorite Ryria anything, and I'm just about through a maiden run of all the books. However, a lot of why I loved it so much was because of the prior character development I already had on board. For that reason, I would say save it for a while vs. starting the series with it.
Little side thought: if you're familiar with Texas fishing towns like Rockport and Port O'Connor, this actually captures that vibe. Yes, really.

Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Story
Seventeen-year-old spirit medium Emily Chambers has a problem. Actually, she has several. As if seeing dead people isn’t a big enough social disadvantage, she also has to contend with an escaped demon and a handsome ghost with a secret past. And then there’s the question of her parentage. Being born an entire year after her father’s death (yes, a year), Emily is as much a mystery as the dead boy assigned to her.

I ran out of Tilky Wallace stories, so I followed my recommendations to CJ Archer's prolific writings. I wanted to like the story; but it was just too trite and underdeveloped.

Mr. Cooper does an incredible job of allowing listeners to join alongside him through some very hard thoughts. The relatability that results was encouraging and stirring. It helped me develop a new perspective on some really sad, scary thoughts, and I plan to keep listening to strengthen that.

Having somehow convinced Lady Annika Jenoure to marry him, all Finlay Ashowan wants to do is settle down, cook some good meals, and enjoy a quiet life in Daxaria. But fate has different plans. Fin’s father, Aidan Helmer, fire witch and servant of King Matthias of Troivack, has arrived in the kingdom with devastating news: Annika’s brother Charles has been taken prisoner, and the only way his life will be spared is if Annika or Fin goes to plead his case. Given that an attack from Troivack is imminent, there’s no way some trickery isn’t involved in this plot.

Obviously I am a fan (or my 17-year-old daughter is) to be on book 3, as that brings my House Witch Hour Haul up to an impressive 678 hours or something like that...
I suspect the format is culpable for much of that because while I can and did work at a game or similar while listening, that would not have been an option if I had been reading. There is some great dialogesomething hard to do when reading the hardcopy.
