Martha Wells one of my favorite authors doesn’t let us down with this story. However the narrator is awful. He would be great doing a mystery or ordering a pizza.

Didn’t have a Hispanic for main character

We are frequently told that Connie, the main character, is a poor hispanic woman. Yet the performer has no accent and reads the part as if Connie were well educated. Its insulting.

A story within a story, a story without an end. The Starless Sea pulls you in like bedtime story. It’s heady and warm, Hoffman’s narration is perfect, understated and lulling. It’s is the best audiobook I have had heard up to this point. I can’t get it out of my head, so disappointed that it had to end. One day I’ll listen again.

Story
"It is the heart of this place, and it is dying," says the Beast. And it is true; the center of the Beast's palace, the glittering glasshouse that brings Beauty both comfort and delight in her strange new environment, is filled with leafless brown rosebushes. But deep within this enchanted world, new life, at once subtle and strong, is about to awaken. Twenty years ago Robin McKinley enthralled listeners with the power of Beauty. Now this extraordinarily gifted novelist retells the story of Beauty and the Beast again - but in a totally new way, with fresh perspective, ingenuity, and mature insight.

Beautiful story wonderfully brought to life by the performer. I had read the book a while ago, way before I bought the recording. This was so well done I actually prefer this over the book, and that’s saying a lot.

Story
Inspired by the Cervantes classic, Sam DuChamp, mediocre writer of spy thrillers, creates Quichotte, a courtly, addled salesman obsessed with television who falls in impossible love with a TV star. Together with his (imaginary) son Sancho, Quichotte sets off on a picaresque quest across America to prove worthy of her hand, gallantly braving the tragicomic perils of an age where “Anything-Can-Happen.” Meanwhile his creator, in a midlife crisis, has equally urgent challenges of his own.

Classic Rushdie. Magical realism but with that underlying sadness and longing that he has in all his books. Vijay Adam’s performance is magnificent. He has an uncanny ability to give each character a distinctive voice.

Richard's cousin is missing, and his best hope of finding her rests with the wily, one-eyed, ex-governor of Florida. Carl Hiaasen introduces his iconic character Skink to a younger audience in this nail-biting adventure! Classic Malley: Her parents are about to ship her off to boarding school, so she takes off with some guy she met online...Poor Richard: He's less of a rebel than Malley, and a lot less trusting. He knows his cousin is in trouble before she does. Wild Skink: He's a ragged, one-eyed, ex-governor of Florida, and enough of a renegade to think he can track Malley down.

The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around - and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old, he's been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. I loved the performance, loved the story...until the end and the performer said “To be continued’. Sooooo, that means I’ve got to wait for closure by buying the next book, or two or three. I don’t have a problem having a story continue into the next book. Think Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. I just don’t like the way Laini Taylor did it, To be continued’. Really? I just spent a month listening to this fabulous book in my car every day and that’s how it ends? Not satisfying at all.

Story
In a ruined and toxic landscape, a community exists in a giant silo underground, hundreds of stories deep. There, men and women live in a society full of regulations they believe are meant to protect them. Sheriff Holston, who has unwaveringly upheld the silo’s rules for years, unexpectedly breaks the greatest taboo of all: He asks to go outside.

I read this book a while ago and when I saw it on audible I immediately got it. My only beef is with the narration. The reader was middling at best. Her voices were so similar you could not figure out who the character was. The main male character sounded like a dolt rather than the intelligent moral man that he is. It took me a while to get past all of that and some irritated me the entire way thru.
