McCammon is the Stracciatella, Ballerini is the Cherry Atop

McCammon’s ear for language lyrical turns of phrase, and clever nods to historic figures and current zeitgeist is music to the reader’s ears, and Ballerini’s cadence and tone is an unbeatable harmony.
I’ll have a double scoop of scare and sarcasm. Just finished the audiobook, and I’m diving right back in!

Story
Back on Earth with nothing more to show for his long, strange trip through time and space than a ratty towel and a plastic shopping bag, Arthur Dent is ready to believe that the past eight years were all just a figment of his stressed-out imagination. But a gift-wrapped fishbowl with a cryptic inscription, the mysterious disappearance of Earth’s dolphins, and the discovery of his battered copy of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy all conspire to give Arthur the sneaking suspicion that something otherworldly is indeed going on.

This story is shaping up to be a masterpiece. Pure and simple. McCammon a characters, even the ones we, at first, hate and fear, slowly creep out of the shadows. The tears well up...at least in the eye that wasn't burned out by acid.

Story
He used to be on the bomb squad, but it's not until he transfers out that Chris Mankowski really begins juggling with dynamite. Rape and revenge are just the tip of the iceberg in a twisty tale that brings Detroit's denizens to life - and occasional death - in all their seedy glory. Electrifying, explosive, and unexpected, this is Elmore Leonard at his suspenseful best.

Leonard through Muller. Bourbon over ice... that's how it goes down. Brevity is the coil of wit, but I'm required to write 15 words for this review, so so ignore everything after B over I.

Working at his brother-in-law's New Orleans funeral home isn't reformed jewel thief Jack Delaney's idea of excitement - until he's dispatched to a leper's hospital to pick up a corpse that turns out to be very much alive ... and under the care of a beautiful, radical ex-nun in designer jeans. The "deceased" is the one-time squeeze of a Nicaraguan colonel who's ordered her dead for trying to "infect" him, and Sister Lucy's looking to spirit the young woman away from his guns and goons.

McCammon and Ballerini!
Reviewed: 12-05-21
This series of books is simply an incredible work of genius! McCammon is an uncanny wordsmith, who paints imaginative scenescapes, filled with well-developed plots and characters, tied together by tear-jerking humor and heart break.
Edwardo Ballerini...where the duck has this guy been??? He blows the texts out of the water and into our imaginations with the power to make McCammons words sing with reality.
If you haven't read (or listened) the previous Corbett books, get on it! Like myself, you will listen again and again to ALL OF THEM.
