Story
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Solid Performance from Mr. McConaughey
Reviewed: 04-17-21
From start to finish the book is both entertaining and insightful. Offers some good life lessons that people can work with and by having the writer and actor reading it, it brings it into a conversation with the listener. He's certainly lived a interesting life, but also one that I think many people can relate with. Very well done all the way through.

The story is seen through the eyes of Uhtred, a dispossessed nobleman, who is captured as a child by the Danes and then raised by them so that, by the time the Northmen begin their assault on Wessex, Alfred's kingdom and the last territory in English hands, Uhtred almost thinks of himself as a Dane.

In 1914, the war which was to have been wrapped up by Christmas had - in reality - only just begun, as all sides entrenched themselves deeper into the Great War. Christmas Eve, 1914 follows one company of British officers as they rotate forward to spend their Christmas on the front lines, a mere 80 yards from the German guns. Upper- and working-class men and boys are thrown together into one trench and struggle to survive.

Great Story of Humanity
Reviewed: 02-15-20
Everyone is doing their best to get along in life, and many of us no matter race, creed, religion, sex, or nationality have similar outlooks and jobs to do in life. This humanizes a time in history when life was miserable for all sides. Don't forget that the average troop is not a monster in his or her own eyes and that outside of conflict you could be friends.
