A sweet romance
Reviewed: 07-02-12
D E Stevenson is the master of the simple but charming story, with every-day characters and happy endings. She is my go-to author for frazzled days. Katherine's Marriage has many lively moments, likable people, the dreadful Zelda, and deals with a modern problem - the blended family. The narration is excellent.

Story
At the tender age of 10, Fanny Price is 'adopted' by her rich relations and is removed from the poverty of her home in Portsmouth to the opulence of Mansfield Park. The transplantation is not a happy one. Dependent, helpless, neglected and forgotten, Fanny struggles to come to terms with her new life until, tested almost to the limits of endurance, she assumes her rightful role....

JANE AUSTEN MORALITY & HAPPY ENDING
Reviewed: 05-18-12
This is one of my favorite Jane Austen books, but there's so much more to the story than a painfully shy, undervalued damsel finding love. The narration was lively, the characters clearly delineated (awful Aunt Norris at her worst, brrr). Still listening to the book, as it's
nearly 17 hours long!

Story
Beth Kerr is the daughter of the boatman in the small village of Kintoul. Her mother died at an early age, after an unhappy marriage that caused her family to cast her aside. As the years pass, Beth grows into a beautiful young woman, watched over by the quiet Peter West. The owner of Kintoul House, Peter is a lonely man with a weak heart and few family members and friends. They both struggle with their feelings for one another, before being forced to embark on marriages decided upon by their families.

EARLY D E STEVENSON
Reviewed: 11-23-11
Melodramatic, without Stevenson's later humor and light touch. Too much angst and too much of the author telling us about the characters rather than allowing the reader to discover them. The narrator does a fine job.
