I didn’t like the characters. The behavior was not believable as it was written. And it certainly didn’t have much to do with horse racing.

Ok story, terrible narration

This story took quite a while to get interesting. But the narrator could not do different voices so it was hard to tell who was talking. The story was tedious and unlikely in the details.

This was a disappointment as it sounded like an early novel that had been updated. The characters were not as well drawn as usual and the plot, while nicely convoluted, seemed simplistic. And the narrator wasn't skilled. All the voices sounded alike, men and women too. Please stop reissuing old stories with new names!

I love her books, but this must have been an early one.
How could the performance have been better?
You couldn't tell the difference between the character's voices.

What made the experience of listening to Shadow Spell the most enjoyable?
The story was great fun, loved the characters, I want to have spirit guides like Alistair and Robard!
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Alan Smyth?
Almost anyone who could make the voices seem different, and who didn't lisp!
