Story
'Teach these boys and girls nothing but Facts. Facts alone are wanted in life.' So says Thomas Gradgrind, a wealthy, utilitarian school board superintendent. Father to Tom and Louisa, he shapes the minds of all the young children, including his own, with the exception of only one: the circus-born Sissy Jupe.

The narrator captured the voices brilliantly, and the delivery was laugh out loud funny in places. A great listen!

Story
It's been over a decade since Nora left her hometown of Scupper Island, Maine, and very seldom looked back. She's carved out a successful life in Boston, where no one knows her as the awkward girl with the delinquent sister and the dad who left, but a not-as-dramatic-as-it-sounds brush with death has her taking stock of her life. Inspired to reconnect with her prickly mother and snarky teenage niece, Nora returns home for the summer, where she's forced to face the people she's spent the last ten years trying to avoid.

Flawless narration, great characters

I never wanted to leave the world of this novel! An all-around great audiobook experience. The narrator got all the voices right. Can’t wait to read more by this author. Still laughing about the dinner party scene on the boat!

Story
Some places seem too beautiful to be touched by horror. Summit Lake, nestled in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, is that kind of place. But two weeks ago, Becca Eckersley, a first-year law student and daughter of a powerful attorney, was brutally murdered there. Now the town is reeling with grief, and the police are baffled.

Rough narration, lame story, plot holes, all the tropes, a veritable feast of improbabilities read badly. Yet I finished it because I had two days to wait for another credit. Go me.

This reader is fantastic, one of the best I’ve ever heard. The story is funny, sharp, with characters so well developed you won’t soon forget them. My favorite Dickens so far!

Dull story, poorly performed, too much dolphin
Reviewed: 06-22-21
Not a single character was interesting or believable. And who picks up a beach read to hear about autism or crimes against dolphins? The Southern accent was so bad. This book was free for a reason - and I still feel like I overpaid.
