Such an important listen

This was such a powerful, informative listen. I enjoyed learning not only about Julia Leonard and her family but also considering the others that were placed in the “Madman’s Hotel” and what might have unfairly landed them there. Just learning about the process that Julia’s descendants had to go through and how much further work can be done to respectfully honor the memory of the patients was really moving.

Story
When Sasha receives a call from her old university friend Gabby inviting her to spend Christmas at Gabby’s remote Scottish lake house, Sasha knows she shouldn’t go. Twelve years ago, on Christmas Eve, when Sasha and her five closest friends were celebrating the festive season, something truly horrific happened that would change the course of their friendship forever. Something that meant Sasha hasn’t spoken to any of them since that night.

I’d skip this one. It’s well voiced and you think it may be interesting , but not this one .

An okay listen with a good narrator

I liked the narrator and the overall idea. I love stories where college friends reunite after something dark happened years ago and everyone is keeping secrets that slowly come out. But I found the jumping between past and present distracting and thought the ending was underwhelming.

I liked this book a lot but I like the female narrator much better than the male narrator. As for the story itself, I was hooked!

Story
Growing up, the three of us were friends. He was the nerd. I was the playboy. She was the beauty. Deep down, I only ever wanted her. I kept it inside because Rory and I made a pact that our friend, Amber, was off-limits. He lied. I went off to college, and he got the girl. Amber never knew how I felt. They were together for years - before he broke her heart. Through it all and across the miles, she and I casually stayed in touch. When my job sent me to Boston for a three-month contract position, Amber let me stay in her spare room.
